Unofficial poll on tank temp.

Personally, I have been keeping mine at 78. I used to let it swing more, but decided to stabalize.

FWIW - if you look at Borneman's book they surveyed one thousand reefs for temperature.

Coldest Reef - Low 16 C (61 F) High 28 C (82 F) Avg 25 C (77 F)
Hottest Reef - Low 25 C (77 F) High 34 C (93 F) Avg 30 C (86 F)
Avg of all reefs - Low 21 C (70 F) High 30 C (86 F) Avg 28 C (82 F)

Both. I shoot for natural reef temps, which means a low of 76, a high of 86, and an average of about 82.

In winter I use a heater to keep the temp 78-83. In the summer the room temp keeps it about 82-86 on its own. I don't use a chiller, but if I did, my summertime max would still be 86. There's no good reason to keep it cooler.

This is almost exactly what I do +/- 1degree
