Upcoming WTMRAC Officer Elections

Mako Shark II

Fish are Friends not Food
Near the time of the Frag Swap, is also our Annual Requirement to have Elections for Office, per our By-Laws.

Clearly, the existing Leadership has been worn down to a nub, by our corporate lives, mergers, acquisitions, our wives, kids, life, etc. That not an excuse, its a fact, and unfortunately, its reflective in the Club's recent (lack of) activities through the spring/ early summer months.

The good news is: We are definitely on a corrected course heading now and the upcoming Frag Swap (which is the VP's main responsibility to the Club (that would be me, "hello!") is on a good path.

However, we NEED (Read: MUST HAVE) Volunteer Support. Many of you have already lifted your hand in support  (a condition which my $pousal Unit calls "helium hands"), so Thank YOU!! Your efforts are Appreciated!

We've also been blessed with the return of Jay Page to the hobby :dance:and while he awaits the delivery of his brand new, custom ordered 120-brick, i'd like to tell you a little something about this cat.

Jay has magnanimously stepped back in and is now updating the Club records, webpages and will soon be helping be with Vendor Management for the Frag Swap.

Accordingly, I am lobbying you for your consideration of Jay Page as President of our Club! (Just think about that for now, until we Have our official elections later this fall.) I have agreed to stay on to act as the Club's VP, to continue to sponsor the Frag Swap (job description previously mentioned), but Jay brings administration excellence to the required month to month activity.

Think about that, but also think about running for any one of these positions:

-President
-Vice President
-Treasurer & Secretary
-Webmaster
-Volunteer Coordinator
-Facilities Director

We remain excited about the Club's happenings and appreciate your Support WTMRAC!!

I nominate Rudolph to any open position or any position he would consider taking. His enthusiasm and drive has at least kept this board going during some very down moments. I think he would make a great asset to the club. His persistence and straight forwardness would at least light a fire under those not so enthused.

Jason: I wasn't aware I was doing anything that would warrrant such words of praise, but thank you. I was just having fun. I would certainly volunteer to whatever area I could contribute. Of course, I hope the key officers will continue to be the ones that have been here awhile and have a host of reefing experience. With less than 2 years of "saltwater" experience I have more to learn than to share.

+1 for Jay to lead this effort as President! +1 for Marty as VP! I hope we can get the club back up and running. I have met several of you along the way already and look forward to meeting the rest.

It's been unfortunate that the club activities have waned significantly this past year, and I would like to offer my services to help turn things around. I want to thank Bill for all he's done as club president and I totally understand how many things have taken him away from club duties. Also Marty deserves major kudos for doing so much with the club frag swaps... many thanks VP Mako!

I have been a member of the WTMRAC and Reef Central since 2004. Since that time I have hosted over a half dozen meetings during which I lectured on topics of water chemistry (including the nitrogen cycle, calcium and magnesium maintenance via DIY solutions), fragging, algal turf scrubber demonstration, sump design. We have had two Christmas parties at our home and a summer time aquarium yard sale as well.

In terms of participation at Frag Swaps, I have hosted a frag tank for 3 years and helped out with at least 4 swaps (that I can remember). If you're wearing one of the multiple designs of our club t-shirt... you've got me to thank.

I've been in the salt water aquarium hobby since 1980, back before live rock had any meaning! I began growing a reef in 1995 and have had a tank up and running continuously since then (including a huge 17 plus year old clown fish in my tank that has been with me the whole time!). This I feel is the most important reflection of my dedication to the hobby!

My presence as a club officer has long been overdue, and for that I apologize. My job as a professor at Rhodes College was particularly time consuming, but since I have moved to St Jude to work full time as a neuroscientist, the after hours grading and committee work are no more, and I am confident that I can devote the time to the club that it so strongly deserves.

All said, I am offering my services as club President (and nominating my lovely wife Lettie as Secretary... as Volunteer Coordinator for Methodist Hospice, who better to help recruit volunteer help for our club?). I look forward to meeting many of you that I don't yet know, to seeing the return of many members that have not attended regularly in this last year... and I look forward to a rejuvenation of our club.

This is all GREAT Stuff Folks! Jay & Lettie have been a bellweather for me and I remember the very first time I met Jay. It was at the very first ever Frag Swap.

He was supportive and slipped me a little bag of white powder, explaining all it's majesty!

(To this day, Im still impressed and confused by "Dr. Voo-Doo", Jay Blundon!)

Just to be clear to all, Marty... and so as not to have the DEA knocking on my door at 2 am! That not so little bag was pure calcium chloride, and I've been known to mix up chemicals in my kitchen... DIY two part solutions of calcium chloride, sodium carbonate, and magnesium chloride/sulfate. And anyone else wanting either CaCl2 or MgCl2, I can "fix you up" cheap! And provide you with instructions.

One of these days I am going to convince neuroslicer that he will never get huge vibrant SPS colonies without doing water changes....heh heh

Great to see some people stepping up to take on some of these responsibillities.

I really hope that the club will get more real "grass roots" participation. I have been a member of the club now for 4 years and have really learned a lot and met some absolutly wonderful people. I admit that I never intended to get as involved as an officer or anything but we had considerable attrition in the ranks for a while, and I was somewhat drafted, into an interem Sec. then President then actually Pres, Sec, and Treasurer for a while. Currently as Sec. and Treas, I Regretfully I do not have the time to spend doing any of those jobs at this time "and do them justice.

Jay, Jay, Marty and Lettie, I have gotten to know and have worked with all of them in the last few years and are all great and dedicated folks who will do a great job moving forward with the club, but they need the help of the general membership, and we need the help from the community to join the club and help out with the frag swap and meetings. The club benefits are that you will gain knowledge and friendships from the effort that you put forth, and help this group in putting out a "great fragswap" for its members and to help promote this wonderful hobby.

LOl Jon funny stuff....remind me 2 days before the swap to bring your light with me.

Logic for head of security??? All in favor say NAH!! J/K Tristan!

Jabo lives in Missouri so he probably won't be hosting any meetings anytime soon, so you might want to have a Plan B on getting that light....
