Alright guys Slowly but surely I have been tryin to get this tank going. Finaly stuff is comething together.

This is my 25 Gal mr aqua rimless cube sitting on my diy stand with a 10 gal diy three chamber refugium. My return pump is a rio 1400 that will be in the left chamber refugium in the middle and one right will be the overflow and skimmer.

I had my tank on a said pannel because everywhere i looked said the bottom was tempered. WEEEEELLLL turns out everyone was wrong and its not so im annoyed. But im not gonna cry over spilled milk and Keep on keepin on.

Im looking for a good return style Its a 1/2 threaded bulkhead anyone know of anyone that sells a good one.

This is my overflow. goes threw the bulkhead into a 90 and up . on the outside bulkhead goes into a T with open top hopefully to stop gargling. then straight town into a 1 inch barbed that will go into a flexible tube. The Return is just a 1/2 inch bulkhead that does into a 3/4 flixible hose

I'd personally go with a just a black strainer on the bulkhead instead of the PVC to make it less obvious but other than that looks good. Good luck with the rest of the build

I would love to have a less obvious But the position of the overflow hole is about 6 inches below the top of the tank and Ill be honest i dont really know how to make that work.. Also I want it to surface skim because in the past i have had an issue with a slime layer of protein... I Would love to find a better option.

The tank is all glass. I had john from uber drill it for me. Gotta love havin someone like him living 5 min away lol.

You could just leave the bulkhead open and make a glass overflow that either goes from top to bottom or it could just go from slightly under the bulkhead to the top of the tank. If you did it so that there was no fittings on the bulkhead, then the overflow would not have to be very deep and wouldn't protrude very far into the tank.

Matt, I saw your tank at John's & had a similar question on overflow being lower. Turns out John has the right idea. Rather than water flow into over flow it is preferable to drop increasing the surface skimming. Your plumbing design seems right. You can trust John's design as this is his expertise. I suggest you don't put a overflow box & waste space in your tank.
If you like to check out the plumbing of overflow in my system you are welcome to Drop by I'm 2
Mins from John's place. I have almost a similar design on my refuge.

So more progress on the tank.. I picked up my overflow box last night and managed to seal it into place. The box had a large surface area on the back so the amount of silicone that is holding it in place should be enough to keep up with any differance between the glass and plasic. Today i will be hopefully finishing the plumbing and tomorrow evening or sunday i will do the swap if everything goes as planned! woot

To help with surface skimming you could ad lock line to your intake and point up alittle to create more surface tension

Ya right now i just have the lock line adapter on it. I havent decided what im going to put on it. There is going to be two powerheads in the tank. ones a koralia nano and the other is a 700 somthing gph one that i got from a guy on here so i was thinking keeping the return a simple defuser type of thing and have the nano pointed a little upwards but we will see how everything pans out. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Thanks! That was a big concern for me when i was originaly going to do a pvc overflow but the way it worked out it was going to stick into the tank like 4 inches almost and i was like ummmmm lets try something else lol So i talked to a friend of mine and he made this for me. I love it.

Finished my filtration yesterday. Obviously the salt box is coming out lol I was using it to show myself where my skimmer would be. So anywho. I put a one was valve on the return so it does not syphon all the water out. Im running a 3/4 tubing into a half inch bulkhead. Pump is a rio 1400 which i think at the hight should push about 300gph. I still have to put a sock on the overflow. Hopefully will be doing the big move tomorrow. :)

ITS UP AND RUNNING!!!!WOOT!

So after some small set backs with my bulkhead (stupid teflon tape) The tank is finaly up and running. Now only small things left to do.

1. take legs off light
2. final aquascape (suggestions welcome)
3. put doors on stand
4. possibly figure out a better sump design (maybe get one made from a friend)
5. do a light for sump
6. autotop off or something to make life easier

Well this is where i stand now. sorry for bad picture quality its from a phone.

Auto mtt great job man, def get the auto top off I've had rimless before and the evape can get annoying if you manually do it. Great job again.

bulldog- Thanks! ya its deffinatly something im going to have to look into i really dont wanna be trying to keep up with it.

SO after about 9 months i figure its time for an update :) plus i havent really been on in a while been busy with changes at work, riding and got back into tryin to make the car faster haha. So i replaced the bulbs finaly and went with wavepoint 2 2unwave which is basicly pure white. one actinic and one reef wave which gives up a little more of a violet light. i really like the way it looks really makes everything pop out.

let me know what ya think. i have three pics all cellphone so sorry. one is only bulbs. ones dirty tank with new bulbs lol and other tank how it sits now mostly cleaned up with new bulbs
