UPDATE: Tunze osmolator not operating correctly? Leaving for a 2 week vaction...

Continues not to work, attempted the following to remedy...

-soaked/cleaned w/warm soapy water (numerous).
-installed a lexan bubble shield to cut down on bubbles and ripples (although no ripple or bubbles where where present).
-added mech filtration to cut down on debris.
-Re-mounted mounting hardware with silicone for a more secure hold.

I tested the item in a cup of RO/DI water and it continued to perform erratically?

I noticed it will perform well for an hour or so but then go haywire. If I unplug and allow the box to "cool-down" (warm to the touch) I can get another hour and then repeat. I am sending the item in for repair/replacement, please advise. Thanks!! Steve.

I need the item in about a week, leaving the country soon. Thanks-again.

Purchased the Tunze osmolator in an effort to automate my system however I don't think the probe is calibrated correctly...the pump continuously tops-off even once the desired level is complete and I leave for a 2 week vacation at the end of the month, any suggestions? Thanks!! Steve.

Is the pump running or do you have it set up wrong causing it to siphon even after the pump stops? In a proper install the hose goes to the tank- running up to defeat gravity and hence siphons. It should not contact the surface of the aquarium but be mounted over it. Otherwise, brand new osmolators will have issues with air sticking to the sensor this is simply the result of the highly polished plastic being hydrophobic. Rinsing it in warm water, possibly with some soap and drying it with a soft towel will eliminate this, otherwise it goes away on it's own in a couple days.

How much of the probe should contact the water? The unit will work for most of the day but then for some reason the pump will come on, pause briefly and then come on again, pause briefly and so on, I then pull the plug before the water gets to high, could the probe be defected? Please advise, Thanks!! Steve.

Just the tip, but keep in mind any air bubbles will cause this problem, if you have a very turbulent sump or a lot of bubbles or the sensor is new as I described above this will happen. From what you describe it sounds like an air bubble issue and new sensors attract bubbles, the hot soapy water trick helps greatly to break this problem but I would not leave with the sensor operating in a sump that has bubbles in it.

I got a little bit of Micro bubbles in my sump but nothing major. Should I try to mount a piece of PVC around the sensor to cut down on the bubbles?

Did you try the hot soapy water rinse? I would test it in a cup of water seperately, this will give you the answer as to whether or not it is the bubbles. It is very unlikely it is defective because the boards are tested on an oscilliscope.

I have cleaned it several times with warm water. Was a little nervous about the soap cracking the acrylic. seems to working now I will look for anything unusual if it goes haywire. Maybe the probe need to be nice and slimmy like a skimmer to work well. I will keep you posted. Thanks!! Steve.

Exactly, it is the same reason new skimmers don't work well, plastic by nature repels water, making air more likely to stick. It takes time to break this property. I learned the hot water trick from a customer who worked at High End lighting as they do this for preassembly of some of their stage lighting.

I am sorry but it is too late, I leave for Germany Monday and no one will be here to receive the package. I cannot do anything until I return on October 27th. The only thing I can do for you at this time is sell you a new one at my cost and when I get back you can return yours, if it truly is defective, I will refund your money on the replacement.

Here is another option, if you won't leave until at least the 30th, I could next day it back at my expense, provided you get it to me by the 28th I shouldn't have a problem, but don't ship it so it is sitting here the whole time I am gone. Otherwise, my phone is 512-833-7546. I am going to be out of the office until 11am Central.

I don't understand what is going on- here are the tracking results:

BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

Contacted UPS, The rep confirmed there is a major problem (most likely lost item) however only the sender can initiate a tracer??? Can you please contact UPS and start a "case"? LMK, Thanks!! Steve. 781 720-9076.

Will do today. I am very sorry, this is a definite first but I have to say something is wrong with UPS on the East Coast. They have broken two items in a month, compared to 3 in the past 3 years and everything I ship their gets audited for weight. I am really beginning to think they have disgruntled employees deliberately doing this.

I called around 10, they have your number. They said they would trace it, they gave me all the info they had which wasn't much but said they would call back as soon as they new more and were going to find the route drivers.

Well, back from vaca and spoke to UPS...They issued a claim refund back to marineland Intl. Can you please send me out a replacement water level controller or a refund? LMK, Thanks!! Steve. 781 720-9076.

I couldn't get you on the phone but I am going to do both a refund and send a new one. I am very sorry for this but I did what I could on my end and figured it was best to wait until you return. Please send me the non operational unit as soon as possible.
