Updated Photos of 2 Gallon Cube

Tanner,
Wow. I don't know if I should say "your welcome" or "I'm sorry". My wife is so upset with the guy who got me started in this hobby that he had to be placed in the witness protection program for his own safety :p .
Seriously though, I am glad that you found something in this thread that convinced you to take the plunge. This really is an amazing hobby and it has brought me into contact with a lot of great people. A 5gallon hex would be an awesome tank to do this with! I would shoot for something around 180-250gph (considering head loss). The best cannister to use is a cheap one! Check the boards, local classifieds, and even ebay for a second hand filter - it will be a lot cheaper than buying new. As far as the modification goes, I'm sorry that the details are burried in a mountain of posts. Baisically you want to buy some "submersible pond lights" I use the 5w halogen and they are perfect! Drill your cannister so that the hole is just barely big enough to squeeze the light cord though then cut the plug off the lights, run the cord in, and then recconect the plug. Use a ton of silicone around the cord just for peice of mind.
I hope this was clear. Please PM me - I can go into as much detail as you need.
Good luck with your project!

- Chad

I don't want to get involved, but what exactly happened to ocdocd? I missed all of the posts, I'd just like to know what the violation was.

If you had read the posts, you would understand.... They where extremely offensive and vulgar....

This was not the first time this person had done this...My understanding was that this was the third time this person has been kicked off RC.. Each time comming back under a different name and attacking Chad and his thread..

I saved the posts, but I may have deleted them. I might have them at work if anyone wants them. They're crude and vulgar, but entertaining like you'd hear kids say on the playground. lol

hey guys, lets keep this thread on track.... enough about someone that doesnt need the honor of being mentioned. this thread is dedicated to this amazing 2 gallon tank and its owner. Let the incident go.

Thanks sandlot, well said.
There was never a fight here. A fight has two sides to it.
As for what the violation was for, let's just say if someone ever extends a welcome to you and does ther best to answer your question, it probably isn't a good idea to tell them that their wife is a whore and you spit on their country's flag. The only thing that is stopping me from locking this whole thread right now is that is probably what this person wants to accomplish.
The staff at RC has been really great and I would like to thank everyone for staying on topic so well.
I am headed to work early to get those new photos I promised and maybe some footage for a new movie. I am sorry that this thread has gotten so off topic and appreciate your patience. I have quotes on a second halide fixture and a 12" starfire cube, so there is something good to stick around for...

Sincerely,

- Chad

Eric,
No problem bro.
I just did a water change and got a pretty decent photo along with some cool footage of Ike taking some krill off of the end of a chopstick. I plan on getting some more live food for him as well. That, along with the switch to the new tank, will probably be the theme of the next video.
Cheers,
- Chad

Chad, I think this thread just may be the answer to my prayers! I have a 12g w/ an aquaclear 20 'DIY' fuge that NEEDS the submersible light you're using. Thanks for sharing your great little project, and thanks for handling negativity with class. I can't wait to see the video!

Wendy,
Thank you. I'm glad that it was a help. The 5watt halogen works perfectly for the job. I just googled "submersible pond light" and shopped around for the best price.
Good luck.

Hi again Chad, the tank still looks great, my cube is under construction and I hope will be mailed to me soon. I am plumbing just as you did but included a clear chaeto box for external lighting. This is sealed with a flange. Should I plumb the chaeto box on the in flow or outflow of the filter?

From a refugium perspective I think in flow so pods don't get filtered but from a filter standpoint out flow makes more sense. What do you think?

Also, how did you keep your filter return from stirring up the sand? I was thinking of putting a small halo of live rock around it. I also wonder how you keep the filter from sucking sand down into it (I know you said this earlier but I didn't quite understand that. Will you simplify it for me so I can do a similar setup?

Ron
