Updated Photos of 2 Gallon Cube

are those underwater halogen bulbs? where did you get those?

Yup, they are 5w submersible pond lights. I can find exactly which online vender I got them from if you would like but a google search is how I found the best price. When I first tried them, I couldn't find any information on anyone else using them to grow macro algae. I am glad to report that even a single 5watt halogen bulb is more than enough light to grow chaeto. I am estimating that it adds 2degrees to the water temp for this size of tank. Hope this helps.

Haha. Yup thats the idea. The filter is baisically just a closed loop sump - so the greater the volume the better. Fortuantely I was able to put the impellor blades from the 2222 onto the 2128 shaft:

This keeps the output the same as my first filter while giving me three times the volume.

I actually have dibs on an eheim 2260 that a good friend has set aside for me. I plan on eventually modding that filter to run this tank. That would be 5gals of sump/fuge volume without adding any visible equipment to the display tank...

Not even close to the nicest nano I've seen, at least you tried!
Opinions are like buttholes. Everyone has them and everyone's stinks.

Even though balci hasn't learned the old adage "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all", I would like to express MY genuine amazement for your work.

All I can do is try, and you're right, there are a lot of nice nanos out there.

To everyone else, balci is the new name of a user named oldmanandthesea who was kicked yesterday for comments he posted about my tank and my nationality. His earlier post was deleted by a moderator. I don't know what it is about me or my nano that has offended this person so much but I would rather that my thread doesn't turn into a huge fight. Thanks all.

This isn't a reall great photo because Ike was on the move but it shows how much brighter his color is since he molted last week:

He had gone three or four days without eating and the last couple feedings before that were just frozen krill so on Thursday I put two hermit crabs and three nerite snails in his tank. He would grab them one at a time and slowly pull them back inside his cave. I listened to him hammering away all afternoon and by the time I went home, there was just one nerite in the corner and a pile of broken shells inside his cave.

Ninja, I just discovered your thread. Outstanding. I read from start to finish.

You are like the celebrity of Nano right now. Good work.

Chad, there is no reason for you to be modest about your tank... IMO it's the most inovative nano I've ever seen....

Thanks for giving all of us the heads up about this "balci"... My post of question marks was my only way of not flying off at this person... I've had my moments here in RC and have had to appologize to more than one person for being "negative" but posts like balci's.??? I've never been that crasse.....

The way he's heading now, it won't be long till he's gone again...

Keep up the incredable work with that tank of yours.... Ike is looking great......

Bob

Thanks Bob! And I don't want to sound like I was admonishing you or anyone else who posted because, I dont't think you were out of line at all. I just know what my first reaction was to balci's post and wanted to caution anyone else against doing what I wanted to do myself.
I just thought that because this thread is featured in Reefkeeping this month, there might be a lot of new people stopping by who want to read about a 2gal nano and not some guy's issues. Thank you again to Bob and everyone else for their support. I don't mind if anyone wants to tell me what improvements they think I could make - that's why I'm here.
If balci has anything else he wants to say to me, or has an example of what he thinks is the nicest nano he's ever seen, I will be happy to continue speaking to him - through PM's, not in this thread.

Cheers,

- Chad

Not for sure how I missed this but it sure does have me thinking about my eheim in the attic! Very nice shows a lot of creativity with the "less is more approach" IMO.

Wow!! O.O I SO WANT ONE OF THOSE! I'm already thinking up plans on how I could fit one of those on my desk in here  Simply amazing! I agree that the nano tanks are more amazing than the big ones, more effort goes into them IMO! VERY well done!

What a great little tank! Now I think I've figured out what typw of nano I want at work. Now if my secretary will only do water changes for me. :)

Trent and BloBBeBo,

Thanks you guys. Do it! I know that a lot of people have read about my sump-in-a-can mod but I haven't seen any other tanks that use it yet. Good luck!
