I've been running two 175 watt metal halides (these Iwasaki bulbs put out the same PAR as my old 250 watt metal halide bulbs) with two T-5 Guisemann Actinic Plus supplements over my 72x30x24 tank.
I live in the desert and am getting quotes on LED lighting. The savings in lighting electricity is nothing compared to the savings in air conditioning, fans and chiller if I get rid of the metal halides in favor of LED.
I'm looking at the 24" TrueLumen Pro LED light strips to be mounted in my canopy perpendicular to the front glass. The question is: How many strips do I need to match the current PAR values I have? Is there a conversion table somewhere? It seems to be a common question, but so far I can't find an easy answer.
My current thinking is mounting them 4 1/2" apart...meaning 14 strips. Too much? Not enough? How do I know?
