Sweet, i was wondering because i live in an apartment upstairs and the only thing holding me back from setting up my 180 is the fear of killing the old lady under me...

Hey Hey, Curvball imagine bumping into you here - lol.

Nah was some liverock that I was given by SG, with a few other bits and pieces. You recognise some of the corals from these pics though ? Bottom left corner is the Starburst Porites, and those Favia too ;)

That remote sump looks fantastic. Can't wait to see this grow in it already looks amazing. And nice decorating to boot!

Brett

hey Draggie is it possible for you to get corals by your self from the ocean? I noticed you are right at the coast right?

And being on the coast I hope you take the time to surf J-bay and Elandsbai (sp?). World class surf and a world class tank to boot!

Hi Laomedon, yes I do live on the East Coast of Africa in the city of Durban which is right next to the Indian Ocean. Some of the more popular dive spots are places like Protea Banks where Aliwal shoal is situated. Famous for diving with Ragged Tooth Sharks. Slightly further North is Sodwana which also has some awesome reefs. Some of the fish indeginous to our Coastline are, Powder Blue Tangs, Convict Tangs, Pajama Tangs, Chocklate Tangs, Variety of wrasse, Angels and Butterflies. Anthias (The psuedoanthias squampinis in my tank are locally caught). Every couple of seasons the guy's get really lucky and have caught the infamous Zebrosoma Gemmatum of our shores.
A permit allows you to collect specimans for your own tank BUT the collection of inverts is prohibited.
It's pretty much grey area as far as what classifies as an "Invert" and one of those blanket legislations put in place to protect against the plundering of abalone, crayfish, mussel etc. However things like hermit crabs, urchins, brittle stars etc are readlily picked up in rock pools and along beaches.

Guy's have also been known to collect corals from shallow rock pools and man made reefs. Not that there's too much wildly exciting. We not quite in the tropical zone so the water temps average around 22-24 Deg Celcius in summer and in the 18's in winter. Further North towards Mozambique On our northern coastal border) it starts to get really cool and particularly in the Bazzaruto Archipelgo there are some awesome reefs but again here strict legislation prevents the collection of coral.

Hey seedub thanks Bud. Unfortueatly the world famous Super Tubes at JBay are a bit far from where I am. Jeffrey's bay is about a thousand odd kilometers south of Durban, closer to Port Elizabeth. But we have some pretty good local breaks too :) Curvball, my partner in crime, now situated in the UK probably knows them all. Hey Curv that's one thing London doesn't have Dude

yeah, bit far to drive from Durban to go for a wave at the infamous Supertubes @ J-Bay, but at least I can say I've had it at a cranking 4-6ft perfection:D ...it ain't quite the UK but then again I've traded the waves for punk rock, all good... now I just need to trade something else so I can get a tank again.

Dude, how about some more coral shots? ;)

You get my PM re IMACSA ?

Yeah, hit you back with a reply already? I'm pretty easy, I know it is Anthony and Steve who are tight with the dates. Let them pick what is best and I'll arrange around that. Cool.

And hit the mod forum while you there for my 'mammoth' post... ha ha ha... oh and we had like 10cm of snow again today and it only stopped snowing at around 11ish, very 'cool' ;)

Will do. Snow !!! It's freakin 38 celcius here today with humidity. The AC runs 24/7 and my chiller is working overtime. Same timeline, opposite sides of the sphere, you shopping for snowboard boots and I'm using factor 40 for sandwich spead - lol
