i upgrade my 20g reef tank, to a 36g corner bow tank on friday.

friday i got the tank filled with new water, new live sand and 20lb of new CURED LR and the 20lb of LR from the 20g. also put a ehiem 2213 canister filter on it.

saturday i put the penguin 250 filter on that came off the old tank. so i have both ilters. (no skimmer yet, il add that in a week or 2.) also saturday i moved all my corals over, not much ,mainly shrooms and xenia, 1 leather, and 1 frog spawn.

it was real cloudy the day i put the sand in and the rock. it was less cloudy yesterday when i put the coral in but it is still cloudy today. the only fish is a quarter size purple tang. (tang police: i have a 300g FOWLR to put him in when he out grows the 36)

i tested the water todat, everything was at 0, the pH was a tad lowa t 8.2 but i buffered it when i got home.

all the corals are wide open and looking/acting great, the fish is great as well. just very hazzy water. does it still need a few days to settle? any other ideas? im hoping to turn the old 20g into a sump for this tank, it should be done within a few weeks. but i figured the penguin and the eheim would be plenty of filtration. i also have a maxi-jet 600 in ther for added circulation.

As for filtration... I would depend only on the live rock... Just use the filters for picking up particulate matter. Otherwise you are taking away from the bacterial colonies on the live rock.

I would say, if you run some filter on the filter for a day or so... cloudiness should go away.

But IMO, you should get rid of the filters and get a nice skimmer, like an AquaC remora.

I would ditch any filter media in the penguin and mabe just use it for running AC(after the tank clears up) A skimmer is a real good idea !!!

I used two penguings 330, clear up my 125 in a couple of days, I just kept cleaning the filters everyday. My skimmer pull a lot of stuff too.

with the live rock added it will clear up quick.. just maintain lots of circulation, and get that skimmer soon!

I'd say is should be fairly clean in a couple days.

well the tank is crystal clear as of yesterday. today o ireplaced the penguin filter for a seclone 100 skimmer, its the only skimmer i can fit in the space that i have behind the tank. hopfully it will do the job.

so now im running,

ehiem 2213
seaclone100 skimmer
maxijet 600
maxijet 900

hoping thats enough flow to keep the tank looking good and healthy.
