Upgrading LED lights

Hey all,

I'm looking into upgrading the LED lights on my 90 gallon mixed reef. For the past 7 years a I've had (2) 120W Chinese black box LED units over my tank. It's time to upgrade and I'm considering the Reefbreeders Photon V2 fixture.

This is the first time I'll ever replace the lights on an existing reef. Those of you that have upgraded or changed lights, what sort of acclimation procedure did you follow. I want to do everything I can to protect the corals.

Thanks!

The hard part of putting a new lighting system is trying to figure out if they corals look like poo because your acclimating and the lights are too strong so you lower them or.... are they too low and they aren't getting enough?

You either fry them or they are deprived!

Hate acclimating! good luck.

I switched from EverGrow IT2080 fixtures that were 4 years old and still working great to a new tank and Reef Breeders Photon V2 because the old fixtures didn't fit the new tank. I had no issues. I ran the new at 80% of what I had on the old because the new tank is 4" shallower. My PAR meter said I was down about 10%. After a month I bumped them up by 10% and all is still well.

I love the new V2 fixture. Now I've added a second over the display refugium and run it just the opposite of the reef tank at 90% white and 40% blue which is better for the algae. The difference is pretty crazy looking.
