upgrading to a 120

I would start with two Mag 7, or two Eheims 1250 that way you can control your current, and I put one on the GFI and one another circuit in case one fails.

You have to know how much flow your overflows can handle and then size your pump accordingly. The overflow and pump head loss calculators on the home page of this size are great tools.

I am running one Mag12 that I teed. I can't complain thus far, all seems to be going well and gives me the proper flow for my sump.

But, I also agree with Chicken, If the pumps to big your display tank will overflow. Or you could always put a ball valve on it to adjust the flow as needed.

A Mag 12 is rated at 1130 @ 4ft. head loss, and 1120 @ 5ft. So it gives really good flow through the sump as Harper stated.

I use a 3-way type valve. When turned will direct the water back to the return chamber. Basically recirculates it around and around. Could be used to dial it back some, although i run mine wide open. Use the valve for feeding occasionally so i don't have to cut power to the pump.

I also run a Mag12 on my 120 with a bit diverted to the fuge then running up to 4 spouts off of 2 returns. Happy with the setup, can crank up the flow pretty well when blowing off the rocks every now and then to get the poop and the mysterious floaties into the filter sock down below. If your not running the pump to a fuge, I would suggest something smaller.
Maybe Mag7-9 or equivalent?
