upside down LTA

I got a new LTA yesterday and put it on the sandbed. It floated to the front corner of the tank, from the flow, and then turned upside down, not from flow. I turned it over. It moved about halfway toward the back of the tank near the side glass and proceeded to turn over again. I left it alone. It is sitting upside down with its foot extended out resting next to the rock. Any ideas if this is ok, or should I be trying to get it right side up? Thanks. I'll take some picks when the lights come on later.

if the foot is not attached and its resting on its oral disc it will run the risk of getting a bacterial infection or asphixating.

and they need flow, if its foots attached and its just sort of stooped over on its oral disc them get a PH directed toward it to help lift the oral disc.

How long has the tank been set up?
I see total newbie in sig.
Nems need good water params and should be in a fairly established tank.
When I first got mine, I placed them in an area where the flow would gently move their tentacles, and where the light was good.
They moved a little to where they were happy and stayed.
Sometimes it takes a little time, but I'd try to right it at least, and try not to move or bother it too much.
Maybe put in between two rocks to give it a little stability.

yea, I've had the tank up a bit now. I still feel like a newb most the time though. Water params are good.

I moved it out of the side and in the middle(ish) part of the tank up against the rock. It seems to like this so far and has stayed up right most the day. I'm going to leave him alone for a while and see what happens.

I had a purple LTA die to a powerhead last night because it detached and started floating around while I wasn't there. The maxi jet sucked the life out of it. I was so dissapointed in myself. So watch out for powerheasds is my advice.

Yeap, will do. One question though. To feed it. Do I put the food just onto it, or do I have to actually hit the mouth?

55semireef, after all the advice you give out to the fellow reefers(IMO wich is really good) I am dissapointed in you. How can you not have a special filter/screening on that pump?:thumbdown

I am glad your dissapointed in me. I thought it would never happen to me but it did. I deserve the shame on me.

So today, I switched out my powerheads that are more compact and strong. The intake is not a long tube like the maxi jets but its multiple slits in the powerhead that sucks in the water, so the intake doesn't suck strongly from one general area like it did with the maxi jet. Now I need some type of screen to block anything off from getting to close just in case.

Lesson learned.

Gotta admire anyone who shares their experiances to help others, especially when it's a little embarrasing/shameful.
We've pretty much all been there.
