Wrasse update: good news and bad.
Good news, he is swimming. He has actually left the bottom of the tank. It's been nearly two weeks since he was about to do this. He hides in a corner of the top of the tank, and a floating magnet.
Bad news, he is much harder to feed now. He is eating a little, but not nearly as much as he should. He seems less interested in food than he should if he were truly mending. Also he has terrible trouble swimming. He's ok if he stays in his corner where he can lean on things, but actual swimming is terribly difficult. As he swims his body convulses and twists. I'm wondering if he has worms inside that are now dead. If they are in his GI tract he should be able to pass them, but if they had burrowed into his body cavity how is his body going to be able to get rid of them?
He's not out of the woods by any means.
Snorvich, do you have any suggestions at this point?

No, I don't think the metro helped. I'm going to try to get his strength built back up and if he is still alive in a week, give him another Prazipro treatment.

I cannot figure out what the problem actually is. Normally I would guess internal parasites absent any obvious bacterial infection. But it is indeed, to me, a mystery. I know that eating is critical if you can continue doing that.

That was a great article, thank you. After reading it, I may treat with General Cure from API next instead of just Prazipro. General Cure has Metro and Prazi. I don't think wrassy has septicemia, but there is no way to tell for certain. Plus who knows if the parasites did internal damage, he could have an internal infection at this point.

As you read in the article it is extremely hard to diagnose infections with the naked eye. And even harder to dose the proper meds. If you have General Cure I would try that first.
Has he eaten recently? When I can't get a fish to eat I put Selcon in the water. Per Bob Fenner the fish will absorb some of it through their skin.

Did a water change. After about 7 hours he was swimming. Ate three huge bites of clam. Right now he is sleeping upright.
I feel like a sports announcer calling a boxing match:" he's down! He's up! He's down!
He's up again! No! He's down for the count. This may be it... Wait, no he's up again!"
Geez.
It will be totally worth it if he survives though.

You guys are so awesome giving him so much support. Thank you so much. This morning he was hovering under the floating magnet. He chased food and ate three portion of clam. ( his favorite) His eyes are extremely alert and he is very interested in food. But he has a growth sort of on his head. Last night it looked like missing scales. I thought he rubbed it on a rock. Today it is swollen and he loses his balance while swimming. I'm going to guess internal bacteria infection interfering with his swim bladder, and infecting the ...wound? I can't tell what that mark is, but it is not bloody. Just a missing scale or two. Am treating with Erythromycin. Does this sound god? Comments?
