Using a frag tank as a DT - pros/cons

I've been keeping a 12" cube with some live rock, various corals (soft, LPS and some SPS) and a single small fish for a while and really like the compact depth. It makes maintenance so much easier and allows me to keep the lighting reasonable.

All of my creatures seems happy so I'd am thinking about expanding to a custom 48x18x12 glass tank to keep the same depth, but give me more length.

Does anyone have any experience using tank with frag dimensions as a display tank? Pros and cons of using a frag tank would be appreciated!

I've got a 4'x2'x12" 60g FT that would make a great shallow reef. I'd probably try to have it sit lower so it's more of a look-down tank.
