Using high quality pool salt?

What are the opinions on using pure salt for reef aquariums?
I use high grade pure pool salt for my fish food mix, not to make up salt water, just in my food mix so that when I thaw it out, it remains fresh longer.
I have been doing this for over 30 years, but just curious on others ideas and opinions and scientific facts on the use of this type of salt, in salt water tanks.
Oh I dose basically what Randy has passed on to use reefers and other ways of reproducing needed elements, so I realise there is nothing reef wise in this salt.

You'd have to explain what you mean by "use of pool salt for aquariums". If you mean "make your own seawater mix", sure, there's no reason you couldn't with the appropriate additions of sodium sulfate, potassium chloride, sodium carbonate, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, etc..

But why would you want to?

I think he means are there any detramental effects from adding some of the salt to the food to preserve it. The only problem I'd see with doing that would be that pure salt would dilute the other necessary elements in your saltwater like Ca, alk, Mag, trace elements...etc. I doubt this would be a problem at the amounts you are liekly using in your food mix, and assuming you do regular water changes there would be little accumulation of the diluted salt.

If you do mean for mixing up water for the tank, technicaly yes, but practicaly not the best idea. Just look at the long list of other elements in salt mixes and imagine tyring to measure, add, mix them all evenly in each bucket of salt mix. Not worth the effort/risk.

I'm not sure how well animals would adjust to a high-salt diet. For fish, it'd probably increase the energy they must expand to regulate their internal SG, unless the salt is diluted out quickly when the food is added. How much salt were you considering using?

Are your fish obese and exhibit hypertension?:D

J/K, interesting about preserving food. After a few days in the fridge my food starts going rank!

Lol, no I don’t think any of my fish are obese. I use a half of a tea cup per 4 litres of salt water, beyond the salt water the food is mixed in.
I have used pool salt to mix up a little to replace when I need to take out a little salt water to move fish and inverts.
