Using Season Table

Just wondering if there is any benefit in using Season Table to control lighting. I have a Ecotech Radion LED controlled by Apex. I have set it up to use the Season table and it works great. But does it provide any actual benefit to my reef? For example using the sunrise/sunset timing I can set it up to have 12 hours of lighting including ramp up ramp down etc. I believe most use five to seven hours of daylight a day for a successful SPS tank with an hour back and front for actinic. Why would I want to run it for 12 hours?

Another related question: These weather patterns - storm, cloudy lightning etc. it all looks too gimmicky to me. Are there any tangible benefits for using those features?

Controlling lighting for seasonal photoperiods could stimulate spawning in some species. As for the stormy/cloudy etc, yes, gimmicks.

I have fish which spawn at sunset which is easily created with LED systems controllers or controllers such as Profilux.
