As someone who has kept, grown, loved and cherish zoas and palys for over 18 years, even when nobody wanted them or liked them...seeing this makes my stomach turn. I typed a full 2 pages just now about this, but why bother to post it. As long as people continue to pay these crazy per polyp prices...this will continue. This is why you see so many collectors and not enough reefer. This is why you see a tank full of 3 and 4 polyp frags, and no colonies. This is why so many have left the hobby because of these prices. People every polyp is stunning in bright lights, with a macro lens shooting 3 inches from the polyp, NOT THE COLONY, with a macro lens. There are those who will rush here and say, "if you can get that from someone, then hey, go for it", or "It's supply and demand", that's a lie people. Do you think divers dove and brought up one or two polyps? No, they brought up a colony and someone said, CHI CHING. As long as people pay this kind of money for a polyp that grows overnight, go right ahead.
It's sad and those who charge and pay these prices are helping to continually turn this HOBBY into a BUSINESS for so many people.
With a show of hands, how many people sit everyday with their nose against the glass to view their polyps? That is the only time a polyp will look like this unless it is a solid pigment. And the buyer will be surprised when he/she gets it and it doesn't like that way in his/her tank. Then you have to deal with possible mortality if it is shipped. Every polyp is gorgeous in perfect lighting with your face in the water 2 inches away from your 2 polyp frag of Gomer Pyle palys. But guess what, that's not how polyps are viewed in 70, 90, 120, 150 or 200 gallon tank. Lets see those hands.
Advil !!!
