UV Lights, Corals and Fish. Safe?

One of our other hobbies is collecting fluorescent rocks, ie minerals that glow when exposed to UV lights. Over the last couple of years a new generation of longwave leds have hit the market. They are both very strong and relatively inexpensive.

From what I understand, the actinic leds are around 420nm and provide a nice fluorescence response with many corals. These new leds are 356 nm and really make corals explode with color. Midwave 312 nm leds are coming slowly, but are pricey, with true shortwave leds (256nm) a few years away. I do have some very powerful midwave and longwave bulb setups, but am reluctant to try them on the tank.

Anybody have any experience using true UV lighting on a reef tank? Any idea on the safety? I'd imagine probably not very good for the fish, especially.
