Going on a cruise in July to Grand Cayman , Honduras , Belize and Cozumel to do some diving. I'm going to look in on to see if I can send back some coral. In another foum people were wondering if it is possible, I will let you know.

You need a whole lot of paperwork to send them back. Unless you want to spend 5g-10g, its not worth the hassle. I already looked into it, so save the aggravation. Although I could be wrong :).

I've been on that cruise twice, I've never seen much I'd want to send back. Lots of damsels, and large car size brain corals.

CITES paperwork can be very cumbersome and is usually not worth the effort. I am not insinuating any way that you would but resist the temptation to "sneak" stuff back as the penalties are almost as bad as trafficking drugs. Back in my reptile days, I knew a guy that tried to bring in reptiles without CITES documentation that now has a federal felony on is record.

I would enjoy the cruise and take as many photos as possible.

Sending, rather than collecting and bringing back, may be possible, but I think not where you will be. If you can have an established previously contacted local exporter ship something for you, they already have done everything from permits to collecting and acclimating and know how to safely ship. Probably the best you could hope for is to see a little of the procedure, not be a participant.

Similar arrangements have been made with freshwater fish importers as part of an ecotour, except they let you catch the fish that will be shipped to your home. Here is one that an area hobbyist has gone on twice.

Too bad no one TMK has set up anything similar for the reef hobbyist. Maybe they have and I haven't heard about it.
