Vendors that offer 14 day guarantee?

I'm looking for some impartial opinions on this matter. If you purchase a fish with a 14 day guarantee and it dies on the 14th day since arrival, should you receive the credit?

Are you asking how to count the days? The vendor's policy may be described on their web site. If the fish shows up at noon on the 1st, are you asking whether the guarantee runs at the close of the 14th or at noon on the 15th? The better vendors are probably going to honor the guarantee either way.

The day you get it is day one. If it is found dead on the morning of the 14th day, should you be entitled to a credit?

also thinking if it dies on day 14 there would probably be some signs, visable or behavorial, that would clue you in the fish is suffering...i would call the vendor once you see that to let them know...and keep them in the loop...send a pic if you have to...ime, most vendors will honor the guar. even after 14 days if you document a problem and keep them in the loop...

That's what I thought. I have a fish that was delivered on the 8th. It died on the 21st and the vendor is backing out because it lasted, "...until the 14th day".

The guarantee means that it will live for 14 days, not until the 14th day (that would be a 13 day guarantee). If he dies on the 14th day, he only lived for a full 13 days.

So true...notifying the vendors whenever you see something amiss during the "guarantee period", often leads to an extension of the offer. We just had a couple of fish show up in cloudy water with excrement at the bottom, and one was "iffy" (close to death) because of it. We emailed the vendor and told them somebody had likely mistakenly fed the fish prior to shipment, and sure enuff that was it. In appreciation, they extended the time, and I suspect the new person who made the blunder lost a few pounds of a$$ too.

Any signs of problems or did it just up and die?

I've dealt with LiveAquaria before and had fish come in with some problems after shipping. I called them and let them know and they've extended the warranty out for weeks longer than the 14 day guarantee.

To answer what you're specifically asking... I do think that if it dies on the 14th day, it still falls within the window of being in the guarantee. Like someone else said, if they say no then it's a 13 day guarantee.

I don't know about other vendors, but if you keep LiveAquaria in the loop with what is going on with your new fish, they are very flexible regarding the guarantee.

I agree with the others. You should get credit and LA is a vendor that will work with you to see you are satisfied. You should post your vendor's name so we know what to expect when considering whether to deal with them. Good luck.
