Vermetid Snail Removal

Any hints on how to safely remove vermetid snail from a clam shell? I've got a crocea with two of these little pests growing on its shell, and they're keeping the clam from fully extending its mantle. I tried prying them off with my fingers, but no dice.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have taken fragging shears and gently cut thier outer shell and pulled the snail out, even a pair of pliers are good for this. Just be careful not to cut into the clam and damage it.

You can also fill in the tubes with super glue gel. That worked for a couple that were on one of my clams.

I always cut them off, but I like the superglue trick. I cover the aptasia that I get on new corals with superglue. I should have thought of that on my own. Thanks seafan.

Well, I guess it was bothering him more than I thought. When the lights came on this morning, I saw that the clam was covered in bristleworms. :(

For future reference, killing the worm isn't the (whole) solution, since the shell was protruding and irritating the mantle.
