Vertex Illumina Club

that cube looks great and I was planning a similar aquascape as I am doing it as a corner tank. Finished the stand last week and ordered the tank this morning from the LFS.

It does appear to be plenty of light especially if the whites were only at 60% for the photos

Thanks. I need to improve my camera skills, I was messing around with the white balance, the pictures don't do the justice. It's much brighter in person.

Hi everyone,

FYI I am running Snow Leopard and the vertex application on my 2009 macbook pro. Right now I have manipulated the custom schedule and it seems to work just fine. No problems so far.

I love how this thread always goes back to the science of (LED) lighting and corals. I am currently testing my first frag in my 2-3 month old tank....

The guinea pig is a frag of ORA Hawkins Turaki bought from an LFS using T5 lighting. It is set within the bottom 3rd of my 18" deep Solana 67 XL tank. Today would be day 3 and so far looks the same (if not, a little more green).

My light cycle ramps from 0% to 45% white, for a peak time duration of 3 hours. RB peaks @ 85%, Blue @ 75%... then ramps back down. Entire light cycle is 14 hours, but only 7 hours of that is white at or above 30%. The rest of the 7 hours is dim lighting for dusk and dawn.

Can't wait to fully stock the tank.. but I want to make sure I know that the lighting is programmed for optimal SPS health, growth, and coloration.

Hello, everyone. I have a Vertex Illumina question. The Vertex Aquaristik website says their Illumina fixtures "could be networked to other fixtures." What does this mean, exactly? I have a 5 foot Illumina and am upgrading my tank to one that is 8 feet long. Can I purchase a second Illumina and "network" the two fixtures so that they function as one? If so, I am unable to find instructions on how to do this.

Thanks for any/all responses.

Yes you can,
I guess they have not updated the site.
A few firmware updates ago this was addressed!
Cheers
Dave

No Idea,
I would email Vertex!
I think the units should automatically recognize eachother given the fact you have the right firmware but don't take my word for it I have never used this feature before.

need help deciding....

need help deciding....

So I am in the process of setting up a 60x36x30 280g tank. I cant decide between AI's, Radion or Vertex. I am concerned that the 60" vertex wont have enough spread to cover front to back on my tank so here are 3 set up options that I have come up with if I decide to go with the Vertex fixture.

A) 1 single 60" 260 fixture
B) 2 36" 260 fixtures set up parrallel to each other like this ll ll
C) 3 24" 260 fixtures set up parralel to each other like this ll ll ll

I really like the ability and flexibility the vertex offers for upgradeability.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Spotter,
I recently did a test over my 90 using a 4 foot fixture I built for a 220 (60"x30"x28") I found that the 4' 260 will illuminate it however i was not completely satified with the color and intensity over the larger span. I then turned on the illumilux that I installed to my illumina and it was much much better. I posted pictures earlier in this thread probably closer to the beginning of how i mounted them.

Hope that helps
Rob

Rob....that def helps. Any chance you can post some fts? Im thinking about doing 3 24" fixtures mounted ll ll ll.

Steve

wondering if anyone will share thier setting/schedule of thier illumina and possibly growth shots and timelines of some sps?

trying to find out what settings are working the best

mine is currently sunrise 730, peak at 1130 with 52w 85b 85rb 30r run at peak until 130 then sunset at 8

edit: i will dig up some photos of my tank and hopefully find some good comparison growth shots, my tank is fairly new still. i started with small frags been running for 8 months maybe 10

4th week, cycle is complete. I had a week of algae that seems to have cleared up. I think dosing BioFuel and MicroBacter7 helped. Lights are at 40/50/50. Tank is looking mighty fine. Cheers
