Vertex Pro Bio Pellets

I've seen dozens of posts about algae removal....what about coral health i.e. PE or color, have any of the longer term users seen an improvement?

I don't have an algae problem but heading down the path of ULNS to better my coral health.

Been running the pellets for about 2 months now. Every 2-3 days my pellets clump together on one side of the reactor. I shake the thing turn it up wide down a couple times to break it up. Anybody else having his issue?

you need to increase the pump flow.

I've got a lot of fuzzy white stuff on the back glass and on the rocks. Are these bacteria too?

Take about 1/2 of the pellets out and then add them back in about 1 week.

I did as you said, and water clear out next day. Thanks

As I read more and more, looks like this stuff doesnt work, and people have more problems. Is there anybody with positive results?

Nitrates started at 60-80ppm down to less than 5ppm.
PO4 started at 3-4ppm down to .5ppm and dropping (in addition to GFO use).

I should be picking up a bag of these pellets tomorrow. I'm excited. Going to swap out the GFO in my reactor.

What volume would you guys use? My setup is a 55/60 gallon (not sure exactly) heavily stocked with coral, lightly stocked with fish. My N/P levels read undetectable on API kits. I run a large refugium with miracle mud and chaetomorpha, and it has a built-in skimmer.

My reactor is a TLF 150. I need to get some mesh to replace the sponge pads. Driving the TLF 150 is a Rio 800. Will the 800 be enough? Where do you get the mesh? Should I aim the outflow of the reactor to the skimmer intake, or into the water column to feed corals? Should I add bacon to my turkey avocado sandwich, or keep it healthy?

So many questions.

Mesh at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, or Walmart. Probably any other place that sells fabric materials.

Sliced red bell peppers instead of bacon.

Bacon is meat candy!

As with everything in this hobby, one thing that works for some, may not work for others. I gave it a try for a little over 2 months, and have not seen any real significant drop in my NO3. I'll be taking the pellets offline in the next week and giving a sulphur denitrator a try. I'll still be following this thread, and will post a comparison after the new unit has been running for the same amount of time.

I'm running the pellets in a mesh modded TLF 150 reactor, driven by a Rio 800. The pellets are not tumbling uniformly. I'm getting a "volcano effect" on one side of the reactor. What powerhead is better suited to make them tumble? I'm not the most familiar with flow rates from common pumps. Will a MJ1200 be better suited? Should I wait it out? Help! I don't want hydrogen sulfide!

That's all sorts of awesome.

I did some googling.

Rio 800 flow rate = 211 GPH
Maxi-Jet 1200 = 295 GPH

I'm going to try to pick up a MJ for this purpose. Hopefully that works...

My pellets were moving a little better, so I'm sticking with the Rio 800 until I see an issue. IMO, you want a nice slow flow through the pellets for denitrification. Plus if they grind against one another too much, you get pellet dust which can cause a bacterial bloom.

Day 3, some slight haze but barely noticeable.

ok how do you find out more info on them?

I have 500ml in a 220gallon system after 4 days it is a little cloudy my skimmer is skimming like crazy.

Will the pellets get smaller then you add more or do you replace them in like 4 months?
