Vertex Skimmer club

OK its been a week since I added PH PLUS to the tank and the skimmer still overflows even wide open.I also heard that epoxy for fragging makes skimmers freak out...Is there anything I can do to allow my skimmer to be able to run without overflow?
Thanks!

Sorry, but you will have to remind me. Did you post pictures? info on skimmeris needed.. what skimmer? how much water it sits in, is airline disconnected from silencer, etc.

IN-100
I got 7.5" out the water
airline on or off doesnt matter it still overflows.
Im pretty sure it was a combination of epoxy + additives.I did a 20% WC with no results.

Need Help With Setup IN80

Need Help With Setup IN80

I just purchased a IN80 for a 40br. Can someone give me the basic rundown on setup. I've had it running for 8 days. I cant seem to get it dialed in. I've tried 8 and 8.5" but the bubbles keep overflowing the cup. I have also tried different levels on the overflow pipe. Nothing seems to work.

How long will it take to breakin on a new setup?
Is 8" the ideal depth for this model?
Where should the bubble level be at? Just a trickle of bubbles over the lip?

a couple pictures would really help us help you ;) do bubbles overflow even when the wedge pipe is fully open?

You may want to try it in about 6 or 7 inches of water. Then you may be able adjust after break in. Also maybe try and put the bubbles about 2 or 3 inches under the top. Try that and leave it there till the weekend and see what you get. You will be suprised.

Thanks I thought I did enough research on the depth. I have plenyt of time to adjust while my base rock is seeding.

I'll post pics as soon as I can. Yes. I overflow no matter where the wedge pipe is.

Trolldoll, if you have bubbles breaking near or over the lip you probably have it set too high. While I have a much bigger skimmer it is all the same concept, I only let the bubbles break halfway up the neck below the base of the cup. At first you won't see anything, maybe even for a couple of days. Then one day you'll see thick froth collecting up against the lid. Resist the urge to keep adjusting. Just let it run and ignore it for a few days.

Also be sure you have something to skim. You mentioned seeding rock, but if there's nothing in the tank you won't have much to skim.

It's worth repeating because I read it on a daily basis in so many forums where people keep trying to dial in their skimmers. Resist the urge to adjust and let it break in.

I had a 1question for this club. i am possibly thinking of purchasing a vertex genII 80 protein skimmer for my 50 gallon DT/29G sump=total is aroud 75G.

is this a good skimmer for me to use?
any mods i should be aware of?

I have a 50g DT and a 30g sump only using about 15g. I run a IN100. Extra skim is always better. As far as mods go there has been a meshmod done with very minimal results (on the 180 though I believe). And others have switched pumps to a bubble blaster with some pretty good results it seems, kind of pricey though.

If in this case, would a gen1 vertex 100 be better than a vertex 80 gen2? i'm not upgrading, will actually hav eto let it sit and not upgrade to a bigger tank since i'm headed to college and my such.

I believe all the 3000/5000 bubbleblaster pumps would be to powerfull for 80/100, the 2000 may do it.
BTW, The mesh-mod done by mojo.... that he called minimal results, I would call very good results! I do not remember exact numbers, but it was @ 15-25% increase is SCFH!
5 scfh may seem small, but if you only doing 15-20 to begin with,,, 5 more is pretty dang good.

I joined the club with a gen2 80 on a 45g oceanic tech tank. Sold my NAC6 to try this skimmer out. The quality looks really nice. It did cost more then the NAC6 but it looks like it costs more too, so I'm really happy. It skims better then the NAC6. Now that I have seen both on the same tank in the past week I would say the 80 does perform better. Over all it seems to be a quality skimmer and I would buy another.

Hey EvMiBo, Its been awhile since I have been on here how have you been? These vertex skimmers really took off huh? Man, last year at this time there was only like 4 people in the "club"!! I still have my in-100 Gen1. But im thinking about going with the in-180. I have a bigger bio load now since it got cold here in michigan all I do is go to the LFS and buy fish. Anyway merry christmas!!

there was only a few of us at first now the skimmers are sold out everywhere, lets see the was mojo, first than gorey, evmibo, jck8 and i still have my gen I insump 180. my screen name has changed it was d.french

I would love to mesh the resun pump too see what it could do
charlie u could send it to me and let me try my fishing string mod first ;) and if no improvement can mesh it, just really feel this pump isnt strong enough for the in 180, but i do have a dax ex1 coming so i have a back up if i dont like the mesh till i get another pin wheel
