Hey EvMiBo, Its been awhile since I have been on here how have you been? These vertex skimmers really took off huh? Man, last year at this time there was only like 4 people in the "club"!! I still have my in-100 Gen1. But im thinking about going with the in-180. I have a bigger bio load now since it got cold here in michigan all I do is go to the LFS and buy fish. Anyway merry christmas!!

Hey man, all is well. Good to hear from you. Merry christmas to you too! This club has really taken off and I enjoy giving advice through it when I can :). I'm still run my gen1 IN100 too and it's still pulling out a bunch of nasty gunk.. A little off topic, but here's a pic from my tank a couple days ago (just actinics on in this pic though).

Possible to get a video?????

I have a 75 gallon DT and 20 gallon sump. I am wondering if the IN-100 or IN-180 is a better choice for me?

Personally, I'd go IN180.. A IN100 could probably handle it but the IN180 will hold any bioload you want for the most part.

Hey the tank looks great!!! Im thinking of going with the in-180 myself.. What seems to be the sweet spot for depth? I may get working on this sump over the holidays..

I have a 75 w/ a 30 gl sump and I have the IN 100 gen 2 and it works great! I have to empty it every 3 days. I know skimmers are usually underrated, but the 100 is plenty for my system.

Charlie Davidson, I just received a replacement pump from Vertex and I'm Having the same problem. I am thinking about purchasing the BB 3000. Is it worth the $205 or should I buy a new skimmer? Have you had any problems with the BB such as noise or start up issues? Did it come with airline tubing?

It was nosiy at first but is quiet now. it does have a low humm.
it seems like it is 2x more powerful than the pump that came on my 180.
I never had a start-up issue and it comes with airline, but no silencer.
Airline noise is not as loud as sicce pump, but is louder than the resun pump.

IMO- the heart of a skimmer is its pump, only time can tell about its longevity.
I was looking at pumps that cost more than the BB. So, this pump seemed like it is worth the money.
(I would have liked lower price, but wouldn't everyone ;) )

I was very lucky to already have the piping I needed for easy connection to my vertex180. But Ken said, a few post back, it is available at local hardware store. (ABS)

I think my kitten put my cup plug in never never land.I haven't been able to find it since I cleaned the skimmer four days ago...Im trying to get Marine Depot to sell me just the plug so I dont have to buy a whole new cup...lol damn cat.

Trolldoll, if you have bubbles breaking near or over the lip you probably have it set too high. While I have a much bigger skimmer it is all the same concept, I only let the bubbles break halfway up the neck below the base of the cup. At first you won't see anything, maybe even for a couple of days. Then one day you'll see thick froth collecting up against the lid. Resist the urge to keep adjusting. Just let it run and ignore it for a few days.

Also be sure you have something to skim. You mentioned seeding rock, but if there's nothing in the tank you won't have much to skim.

It's worth repeating because I read it on a daily basis in so many forums where people keep trying to dial in their skimmers. Resist the urge to adjust and let it break in.

Thanks for all of the advice. I haven't touched it and it seems to be good to go. I'm sitting at 8.5"

Problem here is the poles are too close to the sump. Send some to me and things will run better :frog:

I like to remind the fish where they lie in the foodchain.

Yep, looks like some nice spanish Mackerel trolling rods mixed in. :)

Everything from bluegill to bluefin tuna. Noticed your from Va. Larger class of Rockfish are being caught at the Highrise of the CBBT and Plantation Light.
