Vertex Skimmer club

It sounds like you have the skimmer sitting in too much water. If the water level is too high the skimmer cup will overflow.

It is sitting in 8" of water. Reading through this thread it seemed that 7"-9" is were the skimmer works best. Is that correct or is there a better height for the In-180? I am assuming that the water height is measured from the very bottom of the skimmer, not the bottom of the sump. The total height of the water in the sump is 12" but I have the skimmer on a stand to raise it up.

Letting the skimmer run for a few hours seems to have worked it self out. It is no longer overflowing and, while not really pulling dry skimate the wet stuff if very ugly and it took about 5 hours to fill the cup about 1/3 full.

Thanks,

I just live close to him and I have 2 skimmers. I can use my Cat1 and pick up one later on..
I hope to be getting a BubbleBlaster pump soon, and trying it on the 180vertex :)

My IN80 is now starting to break in and become more predictable. This is my first skimmer of this type and I'm getting used to the adjustment and how a very small change can make a very big difference.

Only available model from
marine depot Is In280. How much overkill will that be on a 140 gal total softy dominated system. And by the way marine depot will NOT honor the sale on any backorderd.

Yeah, thats kinda where im stuck too. PA isn't sure when they'll get the 100's back in stick. Saltysupply and Aquacave has them though, but they're $200. I was debating on buying a new Nova extreme Pro while I wait for PA to get restocked bit since I already have a MH w/T5 fixture I figured the skimmer upgrade from my Coralife 65 is more of a priority.

Thanks for the offer Charlie but I think the 180 will be a bit big for my use :) I do have a new in box Turboflotor 1000 i need to get rid of though. May have to post it in the classifieds.

Just bought the gen 2 in280 for my 120G cant wait gna start finally building the stand next weekend and then begin the dry set up and rough plumbing then we can see this bad boy in action HAHA Say goodbye to nasty nitrates and hello clean water lol

Emptying the cup

Emptying the cup

I'm a proud new owner of a 2nd gen 100 (I got lucky with the last one in stock from premiumaquatics:dance:). I got it in this friday (great shipping) and put it in some live rock im curring. in minutes it pulled out some nice gunky stuff in its first cup. Sunday I will put it to good use in my 50g with 15g refug., replacing my small but loyal CPR backpack.

My question is, what is the best way to empty the cup?
right now I'm turning off the skimmer, empty cup, then power up.
I was thinking of also trying, lowering the foam level, empty cup, then readjust the foam level again.

SUGGESTIONS??????

Ive always emptied my skimmers while I fed. the feeding collapses the foam tower so you dont need to worry abot adjusting or turning anything on or off.

There really is no wrong way, But it has been suggested and I believe it to be a good Idea-- That you should turn off your skimmer every time. This will allow water into the air line/ventri. Salt deposits often build -up there and this helps wash them away :)
(ro/di water run into your airline 2-3 x weekly helps alot also)

If you just want to turn down the level, while cleaning cup, use a marker pin on wedgepipe, so you know exactly were that sweet spot was!

Sadly, 2 weeks into a great experience with my new Vertex IN-250 the resun pump has died.

I'll see what I can do about a replacement in the morning.

I noticed it was making a bit of a vibration yesterday, by today it what really making noise and not pumping enough to make the skimmer function...

And I just sold my old skimmer today

Well, from what I've read they are very good about replacing pumps as some of the Resun pumps have been found to be defective.

putz if you ordered it from premiumaquatics or marinedepot it shouldn't be a problem getting it replaced. i haven't heard too many stories of pump failures on the 250, sorry it had to be you ;)
