I just installed a IN-100 in my sump area that measured 10.75x10.75 with plenty of room to spare. I shoved it all the way to one side and had approx. 1" of space, so you are going to be real close. I have outlet on same side as intake of pump but it is skimming great.

Thank you for the response. Sounds like ill be able to fit the skimmer in there. Worst case, I can take out the fuge from the middle section which has a larger footprint. I ordered it last night from a local so it should be here by the end of the week. :cool:
 
hey, any one know where i can get replacement shaft washers for my gen 2 in-100 pump? i took it apart last night and one of the shaft washers was cracked....got it running but its loud and does not seem top notch, i would like to replace the washers not the whole pump.

Not sure if this has been done on the vertex page yet but I built a silencer for my Gen 1 IN-100 and worked extremely well. I basically copied the design of the Gen 2. If there is any interest on the details I will post the how to on this thread. Just let me know.

Ken, I am getting 52scfh, with the bubbleblaster on my 180.
I measured today, my thinwall PVC is @1-1/4 ID.
The skimmer is really performing well!
 
A quick (silly?) question.

I would like to make sure that I am setting up my 250 correctly. there are two ports on the pump. The one where the pinwheel is located. Am I correct htat that is the "in" and other port is the out? It is the only way that makes sense based on putting the thing together, I'm just not 100% sure.
 
I just got an IN 280. I've been pouring over the posts in this thread for like an hour. It's probably been mentioned, but what is the ideal water level for this model?

one of the parts (the "out") slides into the skimmer body and the other (in) intakes the air. you should have what is called the volute I believe, a piece that snaps onto the "in" part of the pump and also has a nipple to connect the air hose to. the pump sucks air and water into the volute which then gets shredded up by the pin wheel creating bubbles that enter the skimmer, go through the bubble plate and then proceed to your collection cup, WALA! you have stinky skimmate :dance:

I think the 250 and 280 do better in a bit better in deeper water, 8"-10". I need someone else to confirm this though.. I follow this thread and I still can't remember :p

I know the 80 - 180 are ideal in 7" to 8" but that doesn't help you now does it.

I had another set back. The missing parts arrived today from Coralvue but it doesn't fit the male union piece that came with the pump. The female union ring and bushing are made for the 1" pipe that fits into the skimmer, but the male piece that came screwed onto the pump is a smaller size, probably for a 3/4" pipe.

I've sent an email to Reef Specialty to request from coralvue the matching male piece of the union. For now the pump continues to run using my make-shift fitting.

Well, I am joining the club; I pick up my IN-180 tonight and can hardly wait. This tread has been very helpful in making my decision. I have been having a bad problem with bryopsis for about 18 months and I have tried everything else. So now I am trying a new skimmer; i hope it helps. The Vertex will be replacing a 6 year old Pacific Coast PS 400P that either overskims or doesn’t at all. Most of the time I have it shut down. I feel like a kid at Christmas, I actually had a hard time sleeping last night. Only reefers would understand that!

Congratulations, I got my IN 180 for Christmas this year. Been running two weeks. I really like it and it is skimming like crazy. I left the 90 off on the output side and am running in 10" of water with good stinky skim.
 
Had it all set up last night in about 1.5 hours, the craftsmanship is fantastic, it is more like a work of art!

It has been running for 12 hours now and is really churning up a good froth but i am not getting any skimmate yet. It is running in 7" of water and I have it set so the top of the froth is sitting at abut 2" above the black base of the collection cup (the one where the drain plug is).

Does anyone know if you can attach a hose and valve to the drain plug to make emptying easier?

I love this skimmer!
 
The pump on the skimmer stopped working last night at around 9pm. No idea why, all other equipment is fine, checked wall fuses and tried different outlets and nothing. I think i need a new pump!
 
Sorry to hear about the pump, did you take out the impeller and see if it sucked anything up? As fOr drain lines, I run a 1/2 in ID line off my to a old gallon jug.
