yup. I'm hoping to sit pretty at 600. it was between that pump and the tunze. I've heard good things about both, but also the occasional LOUD airstar. since tunze advertises silence, consumes nearly half of the energy and is adjustable I'm going that route. that being said, it's $40 more ;)

I have had both those pumps and they are both silent IMO the Airstar i can not even tell if it's running or not and the Tunze is about the same. JMO

Was it you who commented on the large verses the small purple pinwheel? I have both and with the large my ATB runs wet all the time, Will the small let it run a little dryer? If so I will swap them out tomorrow? LMK Please.

Is there a way to tear apart a 100in 1st gen skimmer body?
Mine is getting alot of algae building up inside and needs a good cleaing?

My pump went out and i have a tunze 9410 on the way to replace it so i thought i would break this thing apart to clean it.

Thanks

Aquaman- if you havent already read my post about the install of the 9410 on the in100 gen1 about 5 or so posts bedore this one. I also use a toothbrush on the inside to scrub some things away. It's kind of awkward but it works.

Bill/poolkeeper- I don't have any experience with the different pin wheels for the 600. Out of the box the 9410 is quieter and I've already noticed a slight change in noise. I was wondering if you noticed it being quieter through break in?

All the mods I've seen have had the 180 or above. What about the 100? I don't have an official prize for the first one to succecfully mod a 100 and produce more skimmate, but lets go 100 owners. My 100 has not given me a minutes problem, but I'm not happy as of now with the performance. It's not that noisey as of now. I'm just looking forward.

One thing I have noticed is that it has a ton of turbulance in the reaction chamber. I'm just leaving a bubble magus behind and it was much less. It being a BM100 I didn't like the small neck. The BM impeller will work on the IN-100. It works but it is a little small for the pump diameter on the intake and just seemed to increase the turbulance. I gave it all of about 5 minutes and removed it. The BM impeller is far supperior in design of the IN-100, reminds me of the red dragon impeller, just smaller. Babbling on, sorry.
I swapped out the stock pump on my IN-100 for a Tunze Hydrofoamer 9410 a few months ago and am very happy with the results. Very little mod needed to get it to fit the skimmer. Just some plumbers tape and raise the pump a half inch or so...

I bought a Alpha 300 a few weeks ago. WOW!.... this thing is a monster. I have had it running on my 360 gallon system for about 2 weeks. Anyone have that has any good advice. Does anyone know what the best water height to run one in? Thanks.

New Skimmer for my Tank

New Skimmer for my Tank

Hi...I have an AquaC EV-400 that I run with a Mag 18 that is both using too much energy and not producing as much as I would like. I have heard that I could fix this with a larger pump, but already I want something with less energy draw and I think that maybe the EV-400 is a over sized for the application. I have a 180 gallon, 75 gallon sump, mixed reef with 8 small fish (that will grow to be in the 3" to 7" range), a few soft corals (but will be fulling stocking with more corals) and about 200lbs of live rock and a 3-4" Deep Sand Bed. The tank has been up and running for about 6 months. My guess is with sand, rock and sump level that I am at about 180 - 200 gallons for total volume. The flow through the skimmer chamber of my sump is probably about about 250 g/hr. After researching I've narrowed it down to the Vertex INS 180 or 250 (with low watt/high performance in mind). I am also looking into the Super Octopus or Reef Dynamics. Any thoughts on the right Vertex? Any thoughts on the Super Octopus or Reef Dynamics in comparison?

Thanks! Ron

gattoro, if you go vertex I'd go with the 250. I don't have experience with the super octopus' or reef dynamics, although I have heard that the bubble blaster pumps (on octopus') are quite nice.

The Bubble Blaster Pumps by Coralvue (Octopus) are the best Skimmer pump on the market you can buy! Three year full replacement warranty if it has any issues at all, No Questions asked Unless Abuse or Modification played a part in the pump failure.

Yes, I forgot to mention the 3 year warranty is definitely a plus. I think the water blaster 3000 is going to be my next return pump ;).

I have been running a WB7000 for 6 months and love it as it powers my whole system,

Yeah...I'm pretty sure now I'm going with the Octopus SRO 3000INT or the XP cone version...now I'm trying to decide between those two...a lot of people are selling me on the pump these come with...

a little fyi, the pumps used on the vertex skimmers are sedra pumps, which is also the same as the gen x submercible pumps. the volute is the only differance. the in80 and 100 use a sedra 3500, the in180 use's a 5000 and the 250 and 280 use the 7000

I have a vertex 250IN... The first pump brokedown not even 60 days after purchase and the second one just went on me. I think my biggest problem was that they replaced my 1st Gen pump with another 1st Gen pump since the breakdown was so quick. But I dont even want to try the 2nd or 3rd Gen just need some advice on a replacement pump...

I see that the pump that comes with the 250 has 1020 lph air draw

I'd give the Octopus Bubble Blaster 2000 (1000-1200lph) or 3000 (1200-1500lph) a try. Its up to you but I'd go 3000 personally. link here --- I'm also willing to bet it is quieter, and it comes with a 3 year warranty.
