Vertex Skimmer club

stumped need some help, i have a IN-180 2nd gen with BB 3000 and has been running well - just did a healthy cleaning to the skimmer and had it off for a few days, and i haven't been able to get it started without overflowing- i checked the airline and pump again and nothing- i re cleaned the body of the skimmer and all pipes. any suggestions would be appreciated

Bought a used IN-80 body and a new Waveline DC-3000 skimmer pump. I have to make a run to HD to pick up a 90* elbow, but can't wait to try this thing out. I have a new 40g setup with only a pair of clownfish and a couple frags, so there probably isn't much to pull, yet.

How did this work out?

Im upgrading my skimmer and was wondering if i should get a 170 or a alpha 200 my tank is 171 gallons heavy bio load and i have a 40 gallon sump?

Got and Vertex IN-250, pump is fry, there is no warranty because is 2 years and 2 months, not only that they discontinue the skimmer, line and there is no stock pumps available, the warranty manager feels very sorry for me but they wont do anything
my next skimmer will be a very different brand, i get more response from the chinnesse stuff than from this companie, she thinks that the Bubble blaster 3000, will do the trick, but is $256.00 insted of the 76 dollars from the original pump replacement. Vertex aquaristk dont stay behind anything they produce, I am wonder what happen with the ligthing system, they have allreay discontinue 2 generations
Check this out in just a fraction size of compay

You may have heard that ATB USA had shut down, but they are back in business and providing the level of service that made me choose an ATB skimmer in the first place. I had been having issues with the pump on my skimmer for a while so i contacted ATB about it. The skimmer is over 3 years old so I did not expect anything to be covered by a warranty. I got an email back with cleaning instructions and a message that if this did not work I could purchase a new pump directly from them. The email was sent Saturday afternoon, it is now Monday afternoon and the pump is in the mail heading my way.

A+ for customer service on this one, they understood how fustrating it is to have a skimmer not working andworked thru the weekend to get the replacement sent out ASAP.

Check the impeller as I mentioned and let me know what happens with it.
Waiting for BK Dragon pump to come in. I picked up a Vertex 130 I think. Away on business for a year and my beautiful reef crashed. I took most sand out. Almost all rock both in tank over 10 years. I have about 110 gal total volume. The skimmer in two weeks now mostly off because it just overflows right out of the cup. I dial it back its good for a few hours then back over the top. I tried to control air intake from the pump ( has a valve) as well as the "tube?" The thing is set up correctly about 7 inches in water in sump. Does it have anything to do with the fact I took the sand and rock out? I had 50lbs of sand and over 100 lbs of rock. I have about 10 lbs of sand and 25lbs of rock max. What the heck am I doing wrong? I'm sure you're getting a good laugh. I'm trying to start over without completely emptying the tank and fish. Is it possible.

Hello All,

My pump on my IN-180 finally pumped it last gallon. I have a BB2000 new in the box sitting around and I am hoping I can use it. Will it work? I can see that the port on the side of the IN-180 is smaller than that on the BB2000 already. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Hi everyone. I just purchased and received a vertex 130 skimmer for my 55 reef. I put it together as the box says and when I plugged it it..I got nothing. Took the pump out and seen that it was working. Put everything back in and still got nothing. No water or foam is going up the skimmer neck. And it feels like little or no water is going into the pump. Help!?

Yes I tapped and knocked on it to grub to get it to run but I got nothing. When I had taken it out of the sump and used the same.plug it.came on. The only thing I can think of is that the impeller shaft may be broken but I'm unsure

So I have had a Vertex IN100 for about 2 years. I usually clean the pump and whole system every 3 months or so but I have been busy on another project and it has been 6 months. Last night the water got cloudy a little. Could not find the source at first. I turned off the return and skimmer to change filter sock and when I turned the skimmer back on I got 15-20 smoke bubbles from the pump and then it shut off. Anyone seen this before? I see a lot of ideas for replacement pumps what is the best one reasonably priced. Please suggest the best pump and any mods that need to be done to it to get it working on the IN 100. Thanks!

Anyone still around with these discontinued models or this thread for that matter? The pump on my IN-180 has died after almost three years. Anyone know for sure if the Sedra 5000 pump would be an easy replacement solution since it is far cheaper than the bubble blaster option? I have read some bad things about the Sedra pumps so I'm hesitant. Also I've heard of an Eheim option as well as an EPSP3-C pump through reef dynamics. Thanks for any and all help in advance.

I am trying to get my Vertex Omega 130 working. Even with the outlet wide open, the skimmer overflows like crazy. It's been open for a week now. I'm cycling my tank so I wanted to get my skimmer broken in at the same time. It's in 8" of water.

Can anyone chime in on whether you can still get the Vertex 170 with the red dragon pumps? I thought they no longer had the red dragon pumps but found them on saltycritter staying they use the red dragon pump

Do you guys recommend the BB 5000 for a vertex in-250 or should I stick with the 3000. Just want to make sure I'm not over producing foam and overflow the skimmer
