Oh My! Poor guy, it does look like a serious case of head and lateral line disease. Sounds like you're on the right track with the nori and garlic, hopefully someone with more experience than I will chime in. You could also use Vita Chem another vitamin/supplement. Good luck!

Oh my god, I have never seen a fish that bad that was still alive. Sorry about your fish, hopefully the garlic and nori will help. Poor fish:(

Make sure the fish has pristine water and i would make sure you put selcon or vita chem in every meal. You can even soak nori in it and make sure he has nori on a clip every day.The fact that he is eating is a great sign but that fish is about the worst case of hlle i have ever seen.

Yeah that is BAD....How did it get to that point?

The best you can do is continue to feed it well and keep your water quality up.

Good Luck poor guy looks BAD!!!!

gladly im not the idiot that let it get that way. it was this idiot that i met who tryed to give me advice on how to get started, glady i ignored it all. when i saw his tank about 3 months ago it had already progressed half way through his body. i told im to treat it but e ignored it and then he came to me with him glady i have more common sence and better resourses ;] thanks for all te advice and ill try to keep things updated

There's more to it than just HLLE. Look at the tail and how frayed it is. I don't know that this is actually HLLE or if it's some sort of fungal or bacterial infection. The lack of scaling along the lateral line is suggestive of an issue that is related to HLLE, but the fact that the scales are missing along the bottom of the fish as well, somewhere far from the lateral line system, suggests that there's more to it. Honestly, it's very difficult to see what's actually wrong with the fish as the skin tone make it difficult to see, but if you can get a good shot of the head where the lateral line begins to run back that would help to see if it is actually HLLE at all. Again, with the fins rotting away like that, I think there's more to it than simply a horrendous case of HLLE. Even the dorsal spines look to be worn or eaten away (and not just because it's folded back).

sadly the guy who gave it to me got it from petco :blown: i was there today and almost every tang had signs of the early stagges of HLL i told the staff but its highly unlikely that they will do any thing about it, the Ba55terds

Good diet, very clean water, and careful observation should be the concern now. Be prepared for bacterial or fungal infections, as the fish is clearly in bad shape. With the fish's current condition, hopefully you don't encounter a case of Crypt, as copper and hypo treatments are out of the question until the HLLE starts to recede.

Its a good sign he is eating, but I would suspect that even if he does pull through, he will never be "pretty" again.

Good Luck
