very stubborn cases of ich

I read somewhere on r/c that there is a strain of ich that is very difficult to eradicate going around...
I believe some of my fish have it...4 weeks of strong copper treatment and no result...- still scratching and flashing on everything in my qt....
no gravel in the qt ...nothing that would absorb the copper...

anyone one else experience this ?
anyone know of a sloution ????

first- I dont remember seeing anything written to suggest the scratching/flashing is a symptom of flukes...is that the case?
second- fish affected - hippo tang, melanopus clownfish

Oh a hippo tang, no wonder. I usually stay away from these because, like the powder-blue or the achillies, these will get ich if you so much as even look at them the wrong way. Good Luck, you're gonna need it!

I have successfully treatd at hippo tang for ich with hyposalinity in the past. He was ich free after that for over a year until I decided to put a new fish in the main after only a week QT and now it has ich again. I don't know if hypo will work for that particular strain or not. I am now looking into Chloroquine Phospate or Qunine Sulfate, in fact I posted a thread on here not to long ago about these. Hopefully somebody will chime in on my post.

triggerfish: maybe in a few days...but i can tell you this...his skin looks washed out-not vibrant in color...almost like an opaque veil is over his entire body...and another weird thing : doesnt eat much ...just picks at fish food - but loves to eat feces of the other fish in the tank...sound weird?

AGREED , freed....that was my initial diagnosis also, but 4 weeks of copper should have taken care of that...am i correct???

If it has Brooklynella, the only thing that will cure it is Formalin baths. If a copper tank did not cure your fish in 4 weeks then its a good bet your fish have Brook and if one has Brook, ALL have Brook including the tank.

fish infected w/ marine velvet normally will perish rather quickly.
4 weeks of copper is excessive enough.
what copper product are u using and how are u monitoring it?

cupramine w/seachem test kit...
I did notice yesterday that the hippo has alot of white pimple size dots in his forehead near where he is allways scratching...could be its taking along time for some deeply imbedded parasites to come to the surface of the skin and be killed.?...also noticed with the appearance of the dots that he is scratching less....but not completeley stopped...looks like exploded pimples at his forehead area...
what u guys think ???

You need quinicrine hydrocloride in conjunction with the copper.
It is a malaria medication and a prescription drug.

quinine sulfate no good ? it is available from nat'l fish pharm...

It's available because it is not a prescription drug.
I don't think it will do anything as I have used it in the past but if you can't get quinicrine hydrocloride I guess you will have to use that.
Good luck.

Only a doctor, a Vet or a pharmasist can get it for you. My Dr. used to give me a prescription for it and the druggist looked at me wierd like I had malaria.

well maybe my doc would write me a script as i suffer from chronic lyme disease....however Paul - what is the dosing on this med? you cant test for it ,right ?
