Just wanted to share that I purchased a (6) polyp frag of VDM's on July 1,2009. It is now July 21,2009 and I have (2) new polyps that is sm/med size. Been working alot of hours and just now noticed them :D Have been placing a crushed 1000 mg. Vit C tablet in my sump daily in the morning and 21 days later... (2) new polyps ! The Vit.C has really made all my zoas grow really good along with my MH lights. Thanks All.

yep, I place (1) pill crushed into my sump. On the big Vit.C thread on here states not to use the pill form, but several others stated they do and all was fine.So I did the same and I am a furm believer on it. 1000mg tablets from WalMart. The name brand is Sun Valley.I place (1) in about every other day.The reason I say that is because there is times I forget,so to be honest about it,I dont do a every day dose. It works for me.

any proof that it is the vit. c doing this? me and others have tried vit c and had nothing happen. if anything i noticed some algea growth.

needless to say i get great growth without vit. c

I used VC for about 6 month and did not see much of a difference between the tank that I dose it in and my frag tank. But I did start using Aquaritra Fuel which contains VC and other amino acids. It seems to help with zoa health and coloring.

Yes, matter of fact I have had a small trace of detris. My alk seems fine. I know its the Vit C because thats the only thing I have changed. All my lights, etc are the same.Add the Vit C to the tank and noticed faster growth.I know in this hobby....what works for some, doesnt work for others. Again, I used the Vit.C tablets 1000mg from WalMart. Just wanted to share. Again, I am not dosing all the time. I havent dosed since Tues. and probably will dose Fri. Thanks all.

I agree--VC is great for my zoas. I do highly suggest against using the tabs though. They are not buffered & have a pH of 4! There is also a lot of filler in there to keep it in a pill form.

Have you seen the many page thread on this here? here are my recomendations:

Dosing Vitamin C Chart

Use this product:

$5 0ff coupon code: LUL789 (always good for first purchase).

To figure out how much to use, decide if you want to simply improve coral growth, spread, and color. If so, then you should dose around 5 ppm twice daily. If you are having problems with coral or fish health, dose up to around 30 ppm twice daily.

Calculate the total net number of gallons in your tank (minus rocks, sand, etc). Enter that number here ______.

You will now need to do a little math. The amounts below are for 100 gallons of water so if you have 50 net gallons, cut the amounts shown below in half etc.

Dosing amounts using Iherb product:
1/4 tsp=1112 mg.

For every 100 gallons:

5 ppm ----- 1892 mg VC
10 ppm ---- 3785 mg VC
15 ppm ---- 5677 mg VC
20 ppm ---- 7570 mg VC
25 ppm ---- 9462 mg VC
30 ppm ---- 11355 mg VC

After you have figured out how much you want to dose at each dosing, enter that number here _____. This is your dose to be used twice a day.

Notes:
*Be sure your pH and alk are within normal reef limits before starting. Adjust if needed. Monitor weekly.
*Shoot for a ppm of around 5 if only dosing for improved coral growth, coloration, and spread. Shoot for higher amounts up to 30 ppm if you are having melting zoas or closed zoas and look for the causes of your problems as you dose. Check for high nitrates, pests, zoa pox, predators, and unstable water conditions.
*Dose low amounts and increase the amount slowly over the course of a few days to a couple weeks.
*Do NOT dose at high levels (>10ppm), if you don't have a skimmer! Especially on a nano tank.
* If you notice an algae bloom or increased skim on your glass then cut back by half until it disappears.
* Watch your skimmer, it will start to skim more.
* Dose the amount twice a day in a fast moving area of your sump or overflow. You may dilute the vitamin c in ro/di water for a minute then pour into my overflow. If adding to sump, try and add the vitamin c after filtration such as skimmers and reactors.
* If you have a question, ask here. I check VC threads daily.
* The instructions in this guide and throughout this thread are based on using pure Sodium Ascorbate, not vitamin c pills and other non-buffered forms of vitamin c.

Be sure to take some "before" pics!

It works for some , while it doesn't for others. Great sucess with some, horrilbe sucess for other. If you feel it's doing your tank well then by all means continue.

If you feel that it doesn't do anything, if your tank was working well from the get then why fix something that aint broke.

Some that had horrible results, just quit like myself. I might be one of the few and that just my experience and in my own tank.

i used it for several months and didnt notice a difference if at all, so after it was gone i stopped dosing and the tank moves on :)
if you're struggling with zoas i would def. recommend giving it a try to see if it helps but it's def. no guarantee.
