Volume of Tank Flow

Let's say one wants their flow system to curculate 20 tank volumes per hour. The AGA and Oceanic systems come with an overflow rated at a max of 600 gph for their 75g tanks. So the max one can obtain with a sump pump is 8 tank vols per hour for a 75g.

In order to bump up the total flow to 1500 gph (75g x 20 volumes per hour), would one make up the difference with Powerheads in the tank?

Yep.

You don't want too much flow through the sump. You supplement the sump/return flow with powerheads.

my flow rate is as much as 66x tank volume per hour depending on what cycle the timed powerheads are on, 30x of it though hob filters. but mabey im just crazy

Generally, 3 - 5x via return pump. The rest with powerheads/closed loops.
