Absolutely agree! I was just going through this thread to find the parts. If possible I will update this thread with what I find...
 
Vortech DIY Battery Backup

Haven't been on here in a while, sorry!

This backup system is still working flawlessly! I've had several power outages since install 3 years ago and they have always kicked on and ran the MP40's at 50% power. Longest outage was 6 hrs, but I expect them to run 20+ as I have 2 Belkin's per MP40. I will try to update pics in the next few days, don't know why they blinked out.

This has proven to be a very good alternative to the WAY over priced Vortech BU power supplies and is of better quality and reliability!



Should have read all of the last page...thanks a bunch for giving us an update. Will be building this ASAP!

I have just bought 2 Belkins thanks to this post. Very appreciated.

I will be using them with 2 Jebao RW-15. I already test one and the duration was around 11 hours.

I have 3 questions to see if it is possible and what parts are needed:

1. Can I daisy chain the 2 Belkins for extended hour power?
2. Also can I connect the 2 Powerheads with the daisy chain or to a single Belkin?
3. Can I hook both Belkins to get 24v output instead of 12V?

UPDATE.... I think I answered part of my own question after some readings.

Impossible to get 24V out of the 12V unit. Now the concern that I have is that I am using a switchable 12 / 24 Power Supply for the Powerhead. I actually am using it at the maximum of 24V.

If I hook the Belkin it slows down to 12V without power and to 15V when their is electricity so this will lower the pump almost at 50%.

Any recommendation so I can keep using it maximum speed with the Belkin???

I'm planning to use this Belkin setup with an AQLink T1 controller which is controlling a Jebao CP40 (gyre) and it looks like a great option -- anyone using this specific setup?

Also wondering if people are still using the fused cable that the OP states in post #1? In the more recent posts, it looks like people are just going to the Y connectors, etc without inline fuses.
 
Just to be clear, when the Belkin UPS unit is on AC power, I presume there is zero voltage out the DC plug?

Since the original pictures are not showing anymore, I made a new diagram of how I think this works...

This is my presumption: if I hook it up as in the diagram below, when there's normal AC power, the controller will just see the 24V from the original power supply, but in a power outage, the Belkin UPS takes over and supplies 12V to the controller (the AQLink T1 controller apparently switches to a battery mode). What I don't want is for both the Belkin and the original power supply feeding 12+24 Volts into the controller at any time! Is this correct? I hope I can do this without needing diodes, etc.

I will also like to know if this works because I only get 12v out of the Belkin right now.

If it is possible please advise where I can get that splitter.
