Vortech MP40 for 220 gallon

I have a 220 gallon salt water tank. It's 8 feet by 30" x 18". It's a fish only setup so I want to get some water flow just to keep waste off my artificial coral.

So is the Vortech MP40 big enough for it? I just want to get one?

Thanks

In my opinion a MP60 would be better. I have two MP40s in my 180, located on both ends of the tank, which is only six feet long, and the flow doesn't reach the other side of the tank.

Really, even cranked all the way up? I'm going to run a pair of MP40s in my 180 when I finish it. I run one now in my 75g and cranked up for calibration it sucked stuff into and there was definitely more flow than I knew what to do with on the other end.

I have a 150g bow front w/ a mp40 (two actually but waiting on a new power supply for one). Im not happy w/ just the one mp40 personally.

Ive got a 6ft 220gal with 2 mp40 on each end and i feel that the mp40 is not enough for the tank..Had to add 2 more power head for more random flow...MP40 only can push half way across the tank and that about it...mp60 would be a better choice.

mp40 at 100% only pushes around 4ft of water.

i run a single mp60 on my 180g, but i bought it on sale years ago.

If I had to buy now for a FOWLR, I would probably just go with 3 Koralia powerheads for about $150 bucks. Save the money and spend it on livestock or something else...

The vortech pumps are nice but when running at high power settings can be noisey.. if you use an mp40 I imagine it will need to be running at high power to do much in that tank so it will be loud.

I have 2 mp10's on a 4ft tank and at least its a narrow tank. If I upgrade to a 120 4ftx2ft I will go with 2 mp40's instead and run them at a lower power setting. The 10's now can be noisey when they are in a high power mode.

Love the vortechs but no way the a single MP40 gets it done. Its not just the flow volume, you need at least 2-3 power heads to eliminate 'dead spots' unless your artificial cora is congregated centrallyl

EcoTech's site has a build calculator and it says two MP40s in a 6' 180g will have plenty of flow at 2/3 power. Like I stated earlier, my single MP40 in my 4' 75g at about 15% power flows fine to the other side.

I planned on offsetting the twin MP40s in my 180g so they create a swirl effect, and if needed, supplement with my old twin Koralia 1050s w/ wavemaker that I still have in storage.

I have mp 40s at either end of my 6' 150 and I agree with what other people have said. If my tank were any bigger I would definitely want at least one more in the back. I think that is actually what they recommend for a 150.

I say get two Mp40s and one Mp60 if funds allow it.
Since you can dial each of the powerheads, you have much more flexibility and flow necessary for the 8 foot tank.

2 Vortex pumps is what you want. Whether they are 40s or 60s. I have 40s on my 180 running @100% and it keeps the live rock and substrate clean. If you run the pumps on manual they make less noise

I use two tunze 6105's on a 7 foot tank. The flow is great even on the opposite ends from the pump with one on. They take up a little more room in the display, but they are silent and cheaper.
