OK, who is using them?

I've heard so much good about them that I'm curious, but they ain't cheap, so I'm hesitant. But for as important as flow is to our systems, this doesn't seem like an area to skimp out on.

I've got a sump with return that I use primarily to hold my skimmer and run my fuge. I've got a closed loop that I use primarily for flow. All in all, I'm happy with my setup and my critters are generally happy.

But...
If I can simplify things and make my critters happier, then I'm all for it.

Thoughts? Are they really the greatest thing since sliced bread?

Great pump i have a mp20 love it but it has issues with premature failue on parts but they cover them 100% for free i strongly recomend one they are awesome

I have 2 of the mp10's on my 30 gallon. have seen a good increase in polyp extension and growth with adding them. they do cost alot though and I'm not sure these will be big enough for my 90 and I don't have $400 for a mp40. I do like the options they give though for flow and variability of flow

I'm not from NY, but i'll chime in.

I love mine, hands down best pumps, I won't buy anything else, so many features, so nice, doesn't clutter the display with wires, less heat since the motor is outside the glass...

Warranty is excellent because the company whom makes them has excellent customer service, I haven't found a thing I don't like about them yet. IMO, one of the safest buys you can do for your tank....

Just bought 2 MP40w ES' a few weeks ago...very impressed, but still not $750 impressed but close. What i like to them is the variable NTM mode of operation. I have a bare bottom and it keeps the garbage in suspension and gets it out the overflow.

You've got 2 on your 30g??? I've got a 30 long and was thinking 1 would be enough...

Jackson, 1 MP20 will be enough on your 30g, and thats a smarter buy because its upgradeable to a MP40....

I just picked up my 2nd mp10, for my 30 cube. Love them, the w's are a bit more $$$, but worth it if you want the wireless communication. I think you would you would be well pleased with one on your 30 gallon, my tank is sps domanant more flow= happier coral. I got one more so they could talk to each and add more flow other but found out my first one was not a w, but still worth it though. very cool pump.

How exactly does the wireless communication work? Or, more precisely, what does it accomplish/allow you to do? The vortech site was light on details regarding real world benefits of the wireless communication.

Basically you program one pump as master, the others are slaves. The master will send out a signal to the others. This is cool because in the you can get tide in tide out effect, big waves if thats your thing. For me I need to get a wireless kit for my other one to make it the w. But even playing around with the 2 makes for some very interesting current. I put one on each end of my tank, and have them sightly off center from each other, like I siad very cool current. I would also rather use 2 mp10's as 1 mp20, more diverse current. So your wire less communication allows for better timed current if that makes sense( maybe heavy flow on the left side of the tank for one hour tide coming in, and then more concentrated flow on the right side later tide going out), just an example.

Agree about the site the manual is the same way. Im still trying to figure out night mode I think there might be a light sensor or something on it, I dont know but I think it may slow current down at night.

I am in the minority, but I'm not a fan after using one for 6 months. Too much flow on one side of the tank, not enough on the other, and it's pretty expensive to use two (especially if you need to dial both of them down).

I'm more happy with the turnover (40x) and variation from my return pump and two modded tunze nano streams.

As powerheads go, they are certainly fancy, but probably the worst bang for the buck that I've experienced in this hobby.

I've been running a Vortech MP40 on my 225 for awhile now and I think it's awesome. As soon as I can spare the cash I'd like to get another.

I use to have a 37g loaded with sps and large lps i was running 2 k1s and a k2 with a mag 5 to get good flow i got the mp20 and took out all 3 ks and the way my tank reacted to the flow was awesome .

Pricey yes. But not cknsidering when sized to ur tank right u can make waves and wicked random patterns

Oh yeah did i mention they look sick in a tank vs ugly tunezs and hydors
