VorTech setting in SPS systems.

How much hotter does the wetside feel when running Lagoon or Short Pulse in comparison to ReefCrest?

Hi

I got a 140cm long 530L tank, and curently is using 2x mp40, on each side. Does any one have any experience if its better to place them on the same side, or if its better to place them on across from each other?

People do both, I believe it is recomended by ecotech to have them on opposite sides of the tank staggered from one another. In other words a few inches difference in the height and/or the the width.

On our 20g mp10 in reefcrest
On our 30g mp20 in reefcrest

that´s how i do it now, tnx :)

I have just never gottem them to be able to create a wave, was wondering if it would be easier if they were on the same side.

Like others have said.. reefcrest is random but on average you do not realize the flow potential of the pumps. Watching this mode I feel like I am only getting half my monies worth.

Lagoon mode is much better in this respect and overall flow is good but not very random in short periods of time.

Sort pulse wave mode does not get enough flow through the system in my opinion but would be excellent if augmented with some other flow.

As others have noted I seem to get the best polyp reaction running my two pumps that face each other in an independent long pulse configuration. Say 10 seconds on one side and 15 on the other. In this config I seem to get a nice turbulent wave pulse crashing from top to bottom thru the water column either right to left or left to right dependent on how the pumps are spinning up or down. All this while maintaining good overall flow thru the tank. It makes a little noise but I am used to it.

i have a mp40w in a 37 and had 2 in a 75 and by far lagoon mode(PURPLE) runs the pump the hottest,{besides constant mode(green) which higher than 65% runs real hot too} anywhere above 60-65% after 3 hours the pump is scorching....................

......i honestly like to change the setting all the time if i had to pick one it would be reef crest(yellow) but with that said i LOVE short pulse my "SET" wave is sweet!!, and i also like to run in long pulse too, basically every dayi switch it up, but i never leave the house with it in short pulse(blue) as i dont want water to crash over the side, even though i have run it for 7-10 hours when home and its never gotten within an inch of the top of the tank but you never know, the setting i use the least is constant (green), but i do use it when i do weekly water changes, first i put the pump in constant(green) at 100% and i turkey baster blast my rocks to remove settled detritus and let the V-Tech keep it suspended for a few mins thew shut the flow off let the stuff settle blow whatever settles on the rocks down to the sand bed and the vaccum my sand bed, change the filter sock and turn pumps and vortech back on and i keep it in constant for anout 5 hours after the water change to help polish the water and it works great.....

40BR short pulse - start at 100% and tune down to get a sick wave. Tank is in unfinished basement so noise isn't a concern :)

I have had my mp40s for a little over a month and have been mostly running them in 100% reefcrest and my sps groth this last month would have been 2 or 3 months of groth with my old k4s. But I did just switch it to lagoon after reading some of the posts on this thread. I think I will start switching it up now and then.

I did the same after reading this, I wanted to try something new and switched from ReefCrest antisync to Lagoon antisync. What I found was only one of the two powerheads was doing the work and getting hot. The other was spinning slow and staying cool. Then I swtiched over that one to sync mode and it started spinning fast too. I thought that in Lagoon mode it did not matter if they were in anti or sync:confused:
I left it in Lagoon mode for a day but I didn't like how hot to the touch they were getting so I tried both Pulse modes and they were too noisey for the room my tank is in. So I went back to ReefCrest. Do you guys think they last just as long in Lagoon mode considering how hot they get?

40W

I have mine set on long pulse right now. When I get my second one, I will put it back to reef crest. My corals seemed to like it better, but it didn't have enough effect in my 6 foot tank by itself.

When I first got my MP-40 the dry side seemed to be running hot. I adjusted the depth to the next larger size and motor started running much cooler. I'm currently running about 75% on long pulse mode.

Eco Smart tidal swell mode here with NT mode for a couple hours several times a week.

I mostly do Reef Crest but before and after a water change I run Nutrient Transport Mode.

The day I upgraded my mo20 to the new ES40 I put it on NTM and upped the speed , man I lost a torch head to that mishap these thinks are powerful

2 mp40's on reefcrest at 100% in a 6 ft tank. Good water movement everywhere. Are most of you running the pumps in sync or no?? Mine are running separately in reef crest. Seems to get a nice random flow, but wonder if it would be better in sync???

i run them in sync mode on a 120g 4ft and i am pretty pleased.
