Vortech?

tunze are ugly and big and i dont think they compare with vortech but to each there own

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have a small 45 cube so in order to use all the space I could I went with a pair of MP10's. In the evening with normal house noise, (TV, conversations), you hardly notice the noise. On a quiet Sunday morning the whine drives me nuts. When I go larger I will be going Tunze. Paint the back wall black I don't they will be much of a distraction. At least not any worse than a 45 cube that looks like it's wearing ear muffs with the Vortech's.

I plan on having a mix of corals. I'm sure you guys can relate to me being totally new to the hobby looking at corals like o check that one out look at this your mind going a million miles an hour. LOL so really not for sure what direction I will go at this point but I just what to know that if I go with 2 MP10's. Or one MP40 that whatever I do get for corals I will have enough flow. Or should I spend the extra cash and get 2MP40's?

2 mp40's will be more than overkill with ur small tank size! One mp40 pushes 3200gph!! That will blow ur corals out of the water! I would just go with 2 mp10's. Together will produce 3000gph more than enough flow!

U said had Tunze, did they fail?

No, they didn't fail. They are good pumps but they are obtrusive and the flow pattern is narrow compared to the Vortechs. The Tunze controllers are very basic compared to the Vortech controllers. I have an Apex controller that can control the Tunzes but even then, there is little benefit over Vortech controllers.

An ideal scenario for you, in my opinion, is two wireless MP10s and an Apex controller with the WXM module to change the Vortech modes throughout the 24 hour cycle.

As for the comments about the MP10 noise, if the dry side and wet side are properly aligned, the MP10 should be close to silent.

If you can hear it over a whisper, then perhaps:

  • the dry side/wet side are misaligned
  • the dry side/wet side are not shimmed for the glass thickness
  • the bearings are worn
  • the dry side has been dropped and the magnet was broken/chipped

Thank you everyone for your input on these pumps. I believe i will go with the 2 MP10's. That will save me a lot of money then the 2 MP40's that i will be able to put else where in the tank. Now just have to figure out between the reefkeeper and apex. After that i will get an ro/di unit [which will be easy beings I'm a plumber] then i can finally fire this thing up....:bounce1:

I would go with the Apex and BRS 5 stage plus RO/DI

I am rather new to vortechs, I have two on a 24" Cube and like them alot. But I am surprised that there is no discussion of the glass thickness of your tank in response to which model. Are the claims in the manual about glass thickness bogus?

Their true. I have seen the pumps fall apart.

brs 5 stage w/ inline TDS had mine for 3 years and love it, I have an RKL and wish I had an apex although I am soon to get the net module maybe that will change my opinion...

With your extra cash from the pumps you should look into a booster pump for your RODI unit http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store...ccessories/aquatec-8800-booster-pump-kit.html
