Waited for months, over in minutes

I ordered a MAG from my LFS and sat back and waited for it to arrive? Well I waited and waited and waited. I used the time to read up on caring for mags and convinced myself it would be some achievement if I could pull it off. The day finally came, I visited the LFS and there it was a common ritteri about 6-8 across with yellow tips, it was all the way to the top of the tank searching out the brightest light available. Following good advice I left it with the LFS for more than two weeks before bringing it home. I must say It looked in good health from day one.

Well home it came, I gave it the usual treatment and 1hr later it was in. I placed it on a rock high up in the tank directly beneath a 150w halide and just to one side of full flow from a korilia 4. The following I just can’t believe, It put its foot down instantly and turned to face the light in seconds. It stretched upward a little then settled back a bit spreading out to around twice its size. My two baby clowns wasted no time and jumped straight in. All in all I would say it took less than five minutes for the full process start to finish.
I’ve been feeding it every other day on silversides and it’s a real hungry animal.
This all happened two weeks ago, the Mag has not moved or changed its appearance since.
I’m keeping My fingers crossed as this had me worried the most of any addition to my tank and as yet has possibly been the least stressful.
 
It's lights out here so best I can do is after work sunday.

Ps It looks great and Im pleased I made the leap.
 
I'm glad everything is going good with your Mag. I have had mine for 2 months and have been struggling to keep it alive most of that time.
 
Sorry yours is not going so well, guess its the luck of the draw with these things?

Ive taken photos but i must say they don't do justice to the true condition of the mag, It stands very proud and solid looking yet moving softly back and forth with the current.
 
Looks good. Keep the water quality in good shape with regular water changes and hopefully all will be fine.
 
I,m well on the way now to setting up my new mag tank, i have the tank,stand,light unit and skimmer.

Dropped into my LFS and found 2 yellow tipped ritteri both with blue bases. Not wishing to over do things I purchased just the one and thought I would wait to find a red one?
It had been in the shop over two weeks and was looking ok. Its in the tank and doing well, when it settles I'll photograph it and post the pic.

I do have a question for anyone with experiance with ritteri ? colours, am I correct in thinking the blue base is a red base under strong light?
 
I've had a thing for mags for some time and now i,m making moves toward setting up a tank I cant believe my luck thus far. The common is A1 and the blue is doing well, should have pics in a day or so. Lights out at moment

No, the blue will look blue under actinic and purple under daylight lighting. The red is a totally different color morph.

FWIW, I haven't seen a good red based ritteri in a long time (years).

This is the new blue as of today, he's not standing as tall as the common but he's getting there!

hey rico how long did it take for your mag to settle in mine seem to be taking its time.

Well I'm pleased to say the journey continues, the second MAG took a little walk about holiday for a few days only to return to the same spot it left, seems like it was searching for better accommodation, alas none to be found.

I am a little worried about the common MAG it just seams to be getting lighter and lighter in color, its almost pure white ( bleached looking) the tips are still yellow it continues to feed and has never moved or deflated ever. It does ball up every night as the lights dim down, but then grows back in about Min.

Any info to keep me on track would be much appreciated
 
My Magnifica bleached just like that. It seemed incredibly healthy and ate like a pig, but just kept getting lighter. I screwed up and added iodine to help the zooxanthellae recover. They recovered, and the anemone went from bleached to dark brown in about 3 days. This almost killed it. He was bleaching because the lights were to strong. When the zooxanthellae returned he couldn't cope with the lights anymore. I now have it in a different tank under much lower light. He seems to be recovering. Although, very slowly. He is still very sensitive to light increases. If I would have been smart, I would have slowly reduced the amount of light he was getting. Had I done that, I believe he would be much better off today.
