Wanatabei angel in high light reef...

I have had my pair for 2 years in a highly lit SPS tank. Mine were shy for a week, but then rarely hide. Meat and pellets are the main diet for mine.

The one in the pic by FalconNut is not fully a male yet. It still has the female body shape and not all of the stripes. Compare it to the mature male in the picture above. Also, males get very long beautiful streamers.

Here is a good article on the Genicanthus. You can see how a male left without a female turned back into a female over time.

I've had my pair for a while now, 3 400W 10K's.

No problems, they must eat though, total eating machines but it makes them very happy. These are pics just after I got them.

I was finally able to find another female Watanabei. Very small at 1-1/2" - 2". Just got her yesterday and she even ate hours after going in. Here is a photo of her in QT:

I don't know how long they last at your LFS, but at mine they are usually gone the day they come in. This one came in along with another that was already on hold when I called. If you have one available and what a female, I'd go get it. JMO

I work at the LFS so she aint going no where till I decide I dont want her:D

I was kinda surprised, we just started getting in ALOT of exotic fish and I mentioned that I wanted a female and it came in the next week!

Its getting hard to leave work with a paycheck....SO many pretty wrasses...must resist

Apparently she wasn't that healthy. Got her Thursday night and she was dead Saturday morning. I don't believe I'll get another one that small again. She was only 1-1/2".

EnderG60 - What size is the one you're thinking about?

Use of a quarantine/isolation tank is very helpful in these situtaions. It doesn't have to be a stark BB tank.I keep a 30G breeder with a DSB,some softies and zoos set up all the time.I use 2 NO bulbs over it and a powerhead.Nothing fancy.I put my new fish in their to monitor their health and eating habits. It also gives them a place to eat in peace and build up their strength and,it gets them used to my activity and the fact that I supply the food. The fish is easy to remove if it needs to be medicated, but the isolation tank gives it a more natural setting. The DSB is for certain wrasses that bury themselves in the sand to sleep.

I just got a tiny one about 1-1.5" and so far its doing great! Eating spectrum since the day I got her. I had my LFS here order me one last month for my birthday and he got in a huge 4" female that was far too big for my 55g. so he ordered another one and it came in with a damaged eye. Well those 2 have been at the LFS for over a month now and I was considering getting the one with the damaged eyes aswell. its about 2" eating and swimming well. Always out and about swimming around the tank. The one I got was in the same tank with this one and another small female. Do you think If I got the female with the damaged eye aswell they would fight? He said he will give it to me at cost since no one will want her with her eye the way it is...any ideas? Sorry not to steal your thread!

no biggie, the original reason for posting has been delt with :)

but i doubt two female anythings would get along though...

on a sad note the female we got in didnt make it, so im gonna have to wait a few more weeks for another :(

and we quarantine all our new fish for at least 3 days before we put them out for sale. 99% of the fish out of quarantine are already eating and happy. we take very good care to insure our fish in perfect health.

and now we have even more anthias flasher wrasses and fairy wrasses i have to resist:p
