Want to split a big "Pod" purchase?

I want to try to bump up the volume and diversity of pods in my 29g. So I'm thinking about placing an order with saltwaterfish.com for a broad range of pods:

AlgaGen Copepods - ReefPods
AlgaGen Amphipods 30 Pods
AlgaGen ReefPods Pseudodiaptomus 8oz
AlgaGen ReefPods Parvocalanus 8oz
AlgaGen ReefPods Moina salina 8oz
AlgaGen ReefPods Acartia 8oz

I've only got a 29g, so I don't need a lot. So I'm looking for someone that might want to split the above order. Specifically, I put half of each item in my tank, you get the other half. Obviously great care would in in making sure that a very even and equitable division of container contents would occur. :)

Alagen looks like they put out a pretty good product. Look here.

Total - with shipping - is $144.77. So you'd be pitching in $72. If we order another $80 of stuff though, the $25 shipping charge is dropped.

Anyone interested?

PS - this is not a "big" purchase per se, rather I suppose it's a very diverse 'pod purchase.

I'm up for it Steve, let's do it. We can do the other $80 as well. I need a Tangaroa goby, mine has been MIA for the last 4 weeks :(. Also I've been thinking of a lawnmower Blenny to help with the cleanup in the tank :)

Outstanding! I may tack on some other stuff as well. Any particular time you'd like me to order? I can order tomorrow, or wait. Your choice.

Oh, also... It doesn't seem to be working correctly but I MIGHT be able to use their new customer 15% discount too.

So lemme know on the order date. Thanks!

Tomorrow is fine with me. I'll take a Tangaroa and Lawnmower. That should add about $38 towards the $80.

Thanks!

Ritch - you're welcome to put some different stuff in on the order if you wanted... if you were willing to swing by my place in Westport to pick it up.

Rather than pouring my half (of a well agitated container) straight into my tank, I guess I could pour it into another container, obviously saving Georgi's half. And then pour you half of my half into something.

Are you interested in that? If so, please let me know. Thanks!

Can I add a Mccosker's wrasse and two anemone shrimps? Hopefully that will help offset shipping.

If possible, can you please also add another pair of anemone shrimp, an emerald crab and a pair of porcelain crabs (adopted or regular; whichever is available).

Also, if you end up embiggening the pod order I would like to participate in that as well - only if more is going to be ordered though... the current quant seems stretched as it is. My 90 is still young but I think it could use another pod infusion.

I'm in Norwalk so can stop by whenever.

Well, we've got a couple of options on that:

  1. We could double the size of the bottles, moving them up from 8 to 16 ounces. But I'm worried that splitting a 16 oz bottle 4 ways equitably is likely to cause someone to look and say "How, why didn't I get more pods?". I'd rather avoid that.
  2. For just a few dollars more we could get 2 oz. bottles of everything, and likely get a more equitable division. Then each bottle only gets split two ways.

But for EITHER of those I need to hear back from Rich (Galantra).

So Galantra, thefuz... you guys need to let me know what you want to do with regard to splitting things up.

Absolutely. Happy to.

So, here's how we'll play it. Paypal me the cost of your order to stephen.g@colley.org. There won't be shipping cost, or tax. So it's just the cost of your items. Tomorrow morning I'll order whatever I've received the funds for. Easy.

Shipping is overnight, but apparently it takes 1-2 biz days for them to fill an order. So I the goods should arrive Thursday or Friday.

OK folks. It's Tuesday morning. At noon I'm placing the order. Thefuz and Galantra, I have not heard back from you. Happy to include you, but prior posts have outstanding questions for you that I need answers to if I'm going to include you. Plus paypal. Joe and Georgi, you're both good to go.

Noon's the time. Thursday or Friday delivery after that. I will post news of delivery info here, once the vendor provides it. :)

Sorry I work long shifts at the hospital. I am down for any option even want to purchase a mini reef pack as well if I could

PM'd but I'm in as well. Honestly, I don't know what's the best solution for pods but probably best to make it easier on the host (Steve!). If the 2oz works better for dividing up, so be it. Let me know if you need extra containers or whatever - happy to stop by ahead of time since I'm not far from you at all.

OK. Order's in. Thanks for the the last minute communications folks. Two small twists on the order:

  1. There was a small shipping surcharge. It only came to $0.60 apiece.
  2. Then there was a 15% discount on livestock (did not apply to pods).

Bottom line, everyone's paid too much. So you'll have to be leaving my place Thursday or Friday with both your livestock and some extra cash I'll have to pay you back. Could be worse. ;)

Here's what I ordered -

No news on delivery, but it's standard overnight shipping. Expecting to hear news of it shipping Wednesday or Thursday for arrival the following day. So pls check back here for update.

Thanks for pitching in! :)

hey guys, new here, and to reefing. only been at it a month. what are the benefits of pods? is it just a food source?

pods have many benefits imo... as well as a natural food source, as well as detritus consumers, and many other benefits to do with the overall health of our captive ecosystems...

OK folks! I got notification... the shipment comes in tomorrow morning. But such "by 10:30" shipments NEVER come in on time at my place. It is guaranteed to be an hour or two late. I've got an IM out to everyone about directions to my place and the small periods of time that I'm not free tomorrow.

Also... I got a call from Saltwaterfish this morning. Seems they are out of the Pseudodiaptomus, and Algen (who are apparently just down the street) recommended the Tangerine instead. It is apparently a very popular large unidentified calanoid copepod (most likely in the Family Temoridae). I said "Why not - it's not like my original selection was off of anything other than what you had available."

I hope that's OK.

So this is gonna be MUCH fun! I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Check your IM's.

Cheers - Steve
