Wow, wish our tests were like that. Tried 3 different "checkers" against 2 of the pro original version photometers. The first one gave 3 different readings from the same sample so it was returned. The second checker meter read zero consistently while the 2 full size photometers both gave readings of 0.12. A day later the same checker gave a reading of 1.71 while the 2 original (full) meters were still reading 0.12. Brought someone else's checker over and it read zero on the same tank water. Just for kicks I took the same water and my original full size meter to a LFS who also has the same meter, and his was dead on with mine.

While I think the checkers are far better than most of the regular test kits out there, IMO the original gives me consistent readings every time. Then again, theres always the chance that we got 3 bad checkers.

That's what I was afraid of. I hadn't really heard of too many bad experiences with the "checkers" yet, but I guess I haven't really heard that many positive reviews either.

Others may have positive experiences, I just wasn't one of them. Believe me, I of all people would have preferred a cheaper alternative but the testing I witnessed was a bit too inconsistent.
 
Kenfuzed.... You might want to share your experience with the colorimeter in the Hanna forum as well. I know the prez of the company responds there. He may want to address this (potential) problem.

I'm not sure, Mvlk may be able to check in on that Info as i believe he was at the meeting when they did the tests. I was only told of the results second hand from other members.
Kenfused, I don't doubt your results either as these meters are only as good as the particular unit and the persons doing the tests. I've had many test that were done with same test kits and get different results on the same sample. It's just not an exact science at the hobby level equipment we have access to.

Although I started this thread, it has taken me until now to finally take the plunge and add Ecobak to my system. I elected to purchase the GE0 420 Pellet Reactor from Premium Aquatics along with a Tunze pump to power it. The reactor can hold 2 or more liters of Ecobak. I have a extremely heavily stocked 125 fowlr with a total water volume of about 140 gallons when including the sump. I have an SRO 2000 skimmer. My plan is start out with a full liter and see how things go for about 1 month or so. I then may add up to an additional liter to deal with my heavy bioload. I have been dosing large amounts of vodka in the system daily and adding biodigest weekly for about 1 year so I do not think there will be a major shock to my system by introducing the Ecobak. I plan on slowly reducing my vodka doses over the course of 1 week or so after I introduce Ecobak. I also plan on puting some biodigest on the Ecobak media in the reactor to seed the reactor and speed the colonization process.

I am the lucky recipient of the eco-bak from powerman. I have them on my 230 and also on a 40 gallon breeder that is my zoa farm. Hopefully this will alleviate the cyano from the big tank and keep the zoa tank rockin.

My water clarity is normally very good, but this morning I swear I couldn't tell there was any water in the tank. Might just be me but it looks as clear as the day after I change my carbon. Maybe it isn't any different than normal and it is just wishful thinking. I mean, the pellets have only been on the tank for a couple of days :lmao:
 
When people say "tumble" is it the whole column or just movement within reactor? I am running 250 ml thru TLF at 100 gph.

Curious if those who have been using Ecobak for a bit have noticed the pellets dissolving at all. If so, what volume of pellets did you start with on what size system, and during what time period did you observe how much of the pellets reduce?

Dusting off the old zeo reactor!

100 GPH flow thru or a gentle boil is what John recommended.
It's also important to note that he suggests no additional bak supplements.

As I understand it, Eco Bak pellets do not need to tumble vigorously. I have a slight tumble within my BRS unit.

Hi Kris,
why he said its important no add bak suppl? I use pellets for about 3wks now and i dont see any results so far. Po4 still high--0.08, start it with 0,07
No3 was about 5ppm and remaining the same. i use 500ml NP pellets and 500ml vertex
