I recently bought a floating thermometer with a suction cup to hold it on the front glass and the suction cup kept rolling back on itself when the lights were on,Like some reaction?(a clear suction cup)..It was often getting blown around by the power heads.I got sick of resuctioning it..
Well i started to have problems in my tank,Gorgonia wouldn't open and my brain coral wasn't doing well.I noticed the thermometer hanging in the back by one of my powerheads,it looked like it had water in it.Needless to say it must have got blown against the rock or glass by one of the power heads and the bottom broke and it was loosing the steel beads into my tank.
So water changes im in the process and used the magnet to sift some more beads from the sand...
.. Hagen floating thermometers SUCK..

I would never recommend a floating thermometer for a tank, for that same situation, always get a stick on, or a digital one.

Just another great reason to have a sump that you can stick the heater into and you wont have that problem. But if you have no sump to do that with you really need a good stick on thermometer.

I have a stick on too,but i like to have one in the tank or sump to make sure there reading the same....
NEVER DEPEND ON ONLY ONE TYPE OF THERMOMETER...always have 2 just in case one is reading off...Could save Lots of $$$ and greif...Just my opinion
