WARNING - Seneye users !

All,

I rushed out and bought a Seneye (to use for PAR readings ) as it was a cheap but effective way to get values for my tank.
There was a sale from a vendor on here and it was a great price.
I upgraded the home to add the PAR software and all was great - until:

I installed the card - to get the unit to work and the LED was blinking red - although it was working and the card was registered.
I email Seneye and they said it was a bug they knew about and had me try a few things keep blinking... so they said they had a new beta software that fixed this and some other issues. I said ok I would like to install it..... (I know it's beta).

(WARNING) - Go to install following their instructions to a tee...I was a Process writer for several companies - so very familiar with instructions... not that it was difficult to follow.

Now - the unit does not work at all - no lights - no readings DEAD..
I send email after email ( My units not even a week old)... and they say oops and can we see screen shots of your laptop.... my laptop has nothing to do with the software update killing the unit dead.
This has been so frustrating and now they want to use Teamviewer to get in my personal system to look around - are they crazy.... not happening.

I have asked for an immediate replacement - as it is totally useless and I am out over $ 150.00 in less than a week.

Thank you for reading,
Jerry

Set up a guest account so they can check the installation and troubleshoot (they're trying to assist you). Reputable companies have nothing to gain by infiltrating your system. I'm not sure what your level of experience is but you could create a policy that would prevent them from doing anything malicious in a couple of minutes.

Sounds like the software flash failed. Can your laptop still see it?

do a run-as (using your admin credentials) if they want to reinstall or run anything that requires an administrator.

it sounds like they are trying to troubleshoot before replacing the unit which is normal. how long has this been going on? what are you warning us about?

Not to run the beta update if you had a Seneye.. geez.

I'd use Teamviewer with them. You will be sitting right there and you could shut it down if they did anything malicious. Being a real company the chances of that are very low.
Yes, just my feeling is ..being a helpdesk tech myself... this was caused by the update... the units dead...where there are no lights theirs nothing to fix... the beta killed the flash chip.

As kendrid mentioned, apps like teamviewer, gotoassist, webex, etc. are used so someone can connect and see what you are seeing on the screen. Many support departments use them for helping people work through computer based problems. They are not spy utilities and you have control over what they can do and can bump them off at anytime.

Just received this from another forum.. sounds like their software has a bug as it is beta....

Had similar issue installing the BETA upgrade wiping out two units. After some prodding, I was able to get them to replace the two dead units. Have them both installed with the new beta software and are working great now.

Think of it this way. They are probably trying to find out why it failed. This way they can see that is was installed correctly and something else is going on. Maybe they can see why it failed and fix it so it doesn't happen again.

sorry, its just that some people are quick to trash a company before the company has a chance to resolve the issue. your post is not one of those, my apologies.

Geez Jerry, if it weren't for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all. Sorry to hear of these new developments.

So you didn't get any reading before you had these issues?

If you think you are frustrated, can you imagine how frustrated they are that they are being bashed publicly and threatened into replacing a product that they cannot even confirm needs to be replaced since the client won't let them confirm.

Why don't you just send the product to them, with your proof of purchase and allow them to fix it. That way if you don't want to give them access they won't have it. They can confirm on their own and either fix or replace since it is under warranty.

They will be getting...just I wanted to be present...that's all.

Ron, yeah - I took a few readings and the standard mess cover dropped the par by 60+ in spots so I increased and added the wide angle lense and before I could get a new reading this happened just poor timing.

For those who have not followed my issues a lot of SPS loss and bad advice from a couple of sources... I just wanted to confirm the par and it just multiplied after spending time and money on a unit only to have go belly up on an update..

Sorry to hear about your loss. Where are your issues documented. I would like to try to help you out.

Hi... well in a nutshell 30 years in Reef keeping... from MH..VHOs..T5s...to LEDs...never seen as issue like this with my new LED light..(XR15 Pro)..had a Ecoxotics before and even added more LED to it and grew all types of SPS and LPS. The new light I have nothing but issues trying to get the par right with out either burning corals or getting white stripes on them... no bugs or pest in the system... as all my other stuff is fine.

I have Acans, Chalice, Zoas, Rics... just SPS issues and the system is more than 8 months old... all tank parms.. are in range and I am dosing 2 part.. have been for years.

Can't keep even easy SPS .. they just slowly die off... the only concern was PAR.. thus the Seneye as BRS.. said they are pretty dead on..within 5-10 of a number. I have tried using the A+B program from ECO labs testing..was at 35% brought up to 50% and my SPS were at 250-325 PAR.. then I installed wide angle lense and can't see what it has done to the numbers now... most of the tank looks ok... it's weird as I have a test piece of Setosa.. which is still living no growth but still orange and another Acro that has gone thru the test but it has a pure with strip up the stock in back where it's possibly shaded...anything else dies within days of being put in the tank at various levels. So if pest these two would be dead as well... I have had Ecotech tell me bring up to 85% that killed just about all my SPS and started frying my other stuff... went down to 35% that started things receeding... so back to 50% ... tank is 16" from top of tank to sand. Light is 8" above rim of tank on their light arm. Acros are 8-10" below water line.. water line is 1/2-1" below rim...whew.

Ron, also has been trying to assist as well..that why the PAR meter to save my SPS.

Yes Ron...250s to 325 at SPS area dead center of tank where they are sitting at the bases..these are all 1 to 3 frags now.

Was not trying to trash them.. just warning people not to load the beta software... on another thread- I have received 3 people telling me same issue...so sounds like Seneye might have known as 2 people had to get new ones sent to them with beta already installed on devices firmware...as they posted. No problem just trying to inform people to hold off on the beta.
