wartskin angler food

I'm thinking of getting a wartskin angler as the sole fish in my elos mini. I was going to set up an additional 20g just to raise feeder shrimp and perhaps small feeder fish once in a while. Here are the shrimp I was planning to get:

Palaemontes vulgaris, sold as "marine shrimp janitors and feeders - superior seahorse food."

Do you think these will be suitable for a wartskin angler to eat? Has anyone raised these separately so that they don't have to keep buying more?

yes- these are excellent, i would "gut load" them w/ marine algaes or cubed or flake foods. My experiencing purchasing them in bulk is that they are expensive- because of shipping and they are ravenous- as in they are hard to keep large numbers alive.

As a suggestion-i would look locally (maybe aquarium adventure) and see if you can get ghost shrimp or grass shrimp- esp saltwater ones- however FW ghost shrimp are fine- the shrimp will live in saltwater for up to 12hrs. This will be a less expensive alternative. Just gut load them the same way

I have taught anglers to take strips of Ocean Nutrition frozen cubes, and observed faster growth and better color when compared to an individual that did not take frozen. If you can get your angler to take both frozen and live food, I'd supplement with frozen for variety.

Brackish water ghost shrimp can be acclimated to full salt water. Sometimes ghost shrimp sold in freshwater systems are actually brackish.

Thanks for the tips! The vendor is telling me he gets 75% of the ones in his facility eating frozen before they leave. I'm hoping this is the case, but definitely plan to offer live food as well.

I got lucky with my striated angler. He started taking krill the second day I had him. I had to wave it in front of him with long forceps to generate interest. Now he comes up to me when I pass the tank. Keep trying!!

Anglers are usually relatively easy to get to take frozen. I use a stick. However, I had a painted angler that I got as a 1" baby that took over two years to start taking frozen. It was apparently a male, and was spawning in my tank with the other angler (which had been taking frozen a long time).

Just be aware there can be differences, and be prepared to offer live indefinitely. I actually gave mine both live AND frozen. They got both at least once a week.
