Waste water

So where does everyone dump their waste water after a water change? I was think of doing automatic changes and letting the waste water pump into my homes sump which drains to the street? Would the salt water damage the house sump pump???

Drain mine out our sump as well. It has not done anything to our pump.

I did the same for many years. You might consider flushing the sump pump with a little fresh water so that you can minimize corrosion of the metal parts. Last thing you want is a flooded basement because your sump pump stopped!

I have a septic tank but when I asked our plumber he said the 25 gallons I put down the drain a couple of times of month is nothing compared to the volume of shower, washer, dishwasher and commode water that goes down it each month. He said it shouldn't bother the bacteria level in the tank but if I was worried to add some every few months. I also run the shower for a few minutes after dumping it to flush the pipes (PVC) out.

yes, but with the salt content it can end up killing any plants around.

i usually just dump mine right down the toilet, city sewage no septic here, but sometimes i pour it in to the landscaping to help beat back the weeds.

I am looking to use a reef filler dual head pump for auto water changes and need a place to empty the waste water and the sump is close to the tank so it was an easy and logical (in my mind) place to let the waste water drain.
