Watchman goby trick!

So I've been keeping a diamond watchman goby (jarred) for about 8 months now and luckily (knock on wood) he hasn't jumped out of my open top tank. But he has a different trick he does.

This is his home front and center

This is his home when he shuts the door for the night.

And at night he jus plows through the sand trap door and goes to bed.. It blows my mind I've never seen a goby do this.

Anyone else's do this?

Heh, that's cool! How does he get all the sand in there?
I have a pistol/goby pair who does that, but the shrimp moves sand around instead of just diving.

I have no idea he just builds the door by doing his goby thing and in the end he literally just plunges through it

Ha, mine does the exact opposite! You can see his entrance clearly all day, but he seals it up at night when sleeping. When it's time to wake up he rises like a phoenix from the ashes bursting up through the sand!

For real though, get a top.

 It took me two hours to make the three sections of mesh tops for my 125. Please take the time and potentially save your fishes life.

Yes, please. All fish can jump. Many fish will jump looking for the next tide pool. If it is carpeted, they are SOL.

Get a cover made, gobies are notorious for jumping. I had a yasha jump into the back chamber of a biocube. Smallest opening ever & he squeezed through. I lifted up the top & he just sat there with a little fish smile on his face. Got him out & put him back in the display. He gave me the fin & jumped back there again.
