water chemistry for breeding?

I am experiencing a problem with maintaining my alkalinity and calcium levels in my 30g with my two part system that I use every other day.

Both levels are high. My corals in the tank are doing fine as is
everything else but I have not had any pregnancies in the last year. In fact I have only had one with my first pair from OR ( my female died from un-explained reason) and now I have three males and one female ( I am ready to add two more females) but before I do I am wondering if this has an affect on the courtship and transfer of eggs.

How high is high?

The only thing I've ever seen on the subject is calcium levels being too low may interupt breeding.

I would think the problem right now is too much competition. People have noticed reduced breeding in situations where there are too many pairs. And you have the trouble with not even too many pairs, but too many males courting one girl.

I really don't think calcium has anything to do with breeding but my calcium is 400 and my bluestripe pipefish spawn all the time.
Don't know if that helps.
