Wave Box 6212

Roger,

What can you tell me on the new Wave Box? Size, how much water moves in and out, duration of cycle, can it be mounted on acrylic tank, does part of the box need to be above water, price, when and where I can get one? ect. Details please if you know them.:D

Streams are more $$$ also... but worth every penny. If these Wave Boxes move enough water for a tank of around 200 gallons, then that is not far off in price compared to say a pr of Sea Swirls and a pump large enough to run them, and you still do not have the back and forth motion. I haven't anything cheap about this hobbie. If the Wave Boxes work, I'll buy it. :D

I dont mind paying a 'premium' price for a good product (and ususaly do) but their prices seem to be above even the 'premium' range. Maybe with pressure from Rio on their SEIO pumps we will see some small price drops.

At $469 each for the wave box they may sell a couple hundred a year but if the price was $250 I bet that number would be in the thousands.

but you would then need to drop the quality, if you look at the streams the pumps are complicated not only the impeller but the electronic control units are top quality, Yes they seem expensive but considering how long a tunze pump lasts and the technology used on it their value for money.

I assume the wave box will contain a stream and an electronic control unit and it would seem the pump will be driven with a very short off on cycle, not many pumps would survive such a duty cycle.

So i do not think you can compare a stream to a normal pump.

I have no connection to Tunze in any way, but i hope they do not drop quality to reach a price point. it would be a sad day if tunze went for the throw away or run it for 2 years ploy.

Also look at the total cost of the livestock ina well stocked reef tank, having a reliable pumps is worth the outlay

so i guess you'd have to run the water level a little lower in the tank huh? i wonder if this or the streams on a controller is better?????

This topic about price drops of the Tunze have been discussed before. Even with a competitor like Rio, it doesn't seem like they would drop their prices because they are already backed up on orders as is. They are making them as fast as they can and you can still wait up to 2 months to get your hands on the controllable models. From what was on the site, the wavebox seems to be even more impressive than the Tunze streams in reproduction of mass water flow to that seen in nature. I imagine that they will also see the same kind of demands as the Tunze streams do now. The Rio Seio is also not in the same league at the moment, because they don't have a controllabe version and the the Tunze also have noncontrollable models that are pretty affordable. However, Rio does make a smaller model which makes them more attractive for smaller tanks with smaller dimensions.

But can't wait until some bold fellas buy the wavebox and try it out.

Peace,
John H.

Ahhh, Great!

Ahhh, Great!

Already two people willing to jump on the bandwagon!

I wish I could do the same thing, but I don't think it would do much good in a 60 gallon cube. Dimensions are too tight. Don't how much of a wave it could produce with only a length of 24"...

But if it could work in there. It might seriously be a contender for the water movement in the tank.

Keep us posted fellas!

Peace,
John H.

a 2cm swell or greater in longer tanks!!!

Will also try and get one to play with, but a little conecrned with:

how will an over flow handle the swell and also how much noise wil be generated as the water is 2cm over the normal level of trhe tank.

How does the tank construction and stand respond to 180 gallons of water moving right and then left at the same time??
thats a lot of mas and energy.

And hit the ideal resonance of the tank and does the wave just keep building, what stop this??

blgreef, Very interesting points. I guess we need to see a Wave Box in action. I can't imagine a box just over 4"x4"x11" could move enough water to cause problems? but who would of thought a single power head could move 3175 gph and soon to be over 5000 gph.

yeah...wait a minute, i wonder if my 20yr. old acrylic tank could handle the pressure...i guess i'll have to ask my cousin the engineer before i buy this thing hehe, i guess none of the tunze ppl, ever broke any tanks.....or did they??????

OK, I was just drooling over the Wavebox again on the Tunze web site... what to you think the Extension 6212.50 for $416.12 is going to add?... just more water moving in and out???

i would think its for very large tanks or if you wish to surf in the tank.

I bet they would work in unison so when one pumps the other fills to realy get things moving, so its a stream and a box minus the controler
