Wavebox first impressions

Hi

Finally recieved my wavebox from the LFS and these are my first impressions.

Excitement at opening the box and pulling out the unit soon turned to dissapointment, when first i found that the protective grating on the 6260.10 was broken(mabey some better packing methods as this was lacking too.
Not letting this get me down(easy superglue fix) I proceeded to thoroughly read the manual to make sure i do things right. A quick inventory check revealed that i was missing the photo electric cell :(
Another bummer.
I also understand that these products may change hands many times before they get to me, but ultimatly it reflects back on the product.
Further on in the manual it says that you'll also need a magnet mounting kit for tanks with glass lids, Please correct me if i am wrong but most tanks over 100gal come with side bracing. For $650 a pop i would have expected magnets, but this is my fault for not researching enough.
Included in the box was a bit of paper saying that older models of drives have not been fitted with an O ring seal, while i commend them for addressing a problem for $650 i would like a unit assembled, Plus no-one likes to be told they might have an older model pump when the've just bought it( I'm not flaming or trying to attack tunze, these are just my first impressions for buyers looking to buy)
The power plug is also a 2 prong end requiring an adaptor for australian outlets(voltage is correct)
The 6091 wave controller is fairly well made, but again for $650 i would have expected more metal less plastic.
The actual box that houses the 6260.10 is well made(no china in sight) although snapping the bottom on when the 6260.10 is housed is a little flimsy for my likeing.
The 7240.27 driver is very nice, the circuit work is Undoubtably excellent german work. The plugs line up nicely too( not 100% with the 6091).
I'm yet to Put the unit in a tank as it's still bieng built but i look foward to testing this.
I shall Post some nice video's of a bare tank with the box in action, will also add some form of flow indicators to show movement in the tank as well as the wave.

Sofar i'm happy with the unit and am expecting some good results in the tank.

Please forgive me if things in the post might be incorrect, i'm just posting as some-one new to Marine.

Cheers

Hi Zim,

The last few shipments of Waveboxes sold through the Australian network of Tunze dealers have had Australian plugs and the new laptop style power supply sounds like you have the earlier version.
The Photo Electric cell is not included with the wavebox or required.
You are welcome to contact myself or Philip for direct assistance all contact details are available at www.aquadepot.com.au

Hi Graeme

Thanks for the reply, the driver was manufactured on the 10/07, so i assume that i got a new driver with and older 6260.10.The guy at the LFS did mention that it came with the cell else i would have thought it an option.
Also it lists it on the box and in the manual as a part. I know import taxes play a role in the exoberant priceing.
The plug is an easy change, but I bought from the LFS specifically to get the australia version, i could have saved import taxes and bought on-line.
I know i'm starting to sound like a spoilt kid, but $980au is alot to me and i was expecting just that extra bit more from the product.
I'm going to see if the LFS will swap my version for the newer australian version.
Thanks again for your help Graeme :)

Just an update guys.
Found out that this wavebox was origionally an extension they just got in the controller.
Also the model was the old one with the impellor problem and the inverter problems.
I was quite dissapointed when i found this out, not to mention the lack of photolitic cell.
Needless to say i took the unit back to Pet city(brisbane Australia) and had a chat to my mate Hayden who promptly replaced the unit with a brand new one.
This is more what i was expecting, the unit looks pro, comes with the cell and dosen't have a 500g inverter.
I would like express my gratitide to Hayden and the guys at Pet city who dealt with the problem better than i could have hoped.

Cheers

Zim
